Prison factions in two border territories

Abstract

The text analyzes from a comparative point of view the criminal dynamics that occur at borders characterized by the presence of Brazilian prison-based groups in the operationalization of the transnational cocaine trade. These are the results of qualitative research investments developed between 2013 and 2018, in the region of the border between Brazil and Paraguay and the border between Brazil, Peru and Colombia. The areas studied are spaces reached by illegal markets and cross-border criminal dynamics that have undergone important transformations, especially as a result of the leading role assumed by Brazilian groups that have learned ways to act to move illegal transnational markets, preserving strategies that mark their base history prison and acting in urban peripheries.
