INCLUSIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT FOR THE DEAF FROM A TOURISM PERSPECTIVE: A STUDY ABOUT SÃO PAULO CITY

Abstract:

In 2010, the IBGE reported that there were 2.2 million people with hearing disabilities in Brazil, 436,000 of them in the state of São Paulo and 120,600 of them in the municipality of São Paulo. RAIS data from 2020 showed that the municipality of São Paulo has 51,458 active jobs for people with disabilities, 7,950 of whom are hearing impaired. The aim of the research is to find out about the profile of employees in the tourism trade operating in the capital, from the point of view of members of the corporations' people management departments. Specifically, it aims to identify how deaf people approach professional placement in this field of study. Exploratory in nature, the research uses descriptive and analytical analysis based on bibliographical and documentary research and discourse analysis with the application of four different surveys via e-mail, between 12/2021 and 04/2022. The scenario investigated points to an inhospitable environment and circulates in a penumbra of the social responsibility of public and private tourism organizations in relation to the employability of deaf people. The study challenges the market and academia to "look at the invisible". As a result, the study becomes a pioneer in Brazil in the area of 27, including postgraduate studies in tourism, due to its subject matter.
