SMART TOURISM GOVERNANCE: ANALYZING INDICATORS IN BONITO (MS)

Abstract:

The smart governance model of tourist destinations is based on the alignment between new information and communication technologies and public management of tourism. The objective of this research was to analyze tourism governance in the Municipality of Bonito (MS) based on smart governance indicators, proposed by the Instituto Valenciano de Turismo (Invat.Tur, 2015, 2017). The study was developed through the triangulation of sources: bibliographical, documentary and empirical research, including semi-structured inter views with actors related to tourism governance in the municipality. The results show that the tourism management system has the poten tial to develop smart governance, however, for it to work effectively, it will be necessary to implement some actions, namely: developing a management plan that includes smart governance indicators for tourism; develop a system creating a web of open and transparent data, with data of different formats and content, with information on the functioning and structure of the public and private tourist administra tion; develop awareness campaigns involving residents, tourists and businesses to achieve higher levels of social awareness about the importance of tourism.
