WILL IT GIVE BEACH? PERCEPTIONS AND EXPERIENCES OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN RELATION ACCESSIBILITY IN TOURISM IN COASTAL DESTINATIONS

Abstract:

In the scope of national tourism, the segment of “Sun and Beach Tourism” stands out in the motivations of leisure travel in Brazil. Similarly, beaches influence the choice of destinations by people with disabilities. Given this relevance, this article reflects whether the right to leisure and tourism are guaranteed to these people or are exclusionary practices that privilege certain social groups. To this end, we sought to investigate the perceptions and experiences of people with disabilities in relation to accessibility in tourism in coastal destinations. The methodological framework involved bibliographic, documentary and field research, with the application of an online questionnaire. The results generated allow to outline the profile, habits, perceptions and experiences of these visitors; indicate the nec essary improvements to the enjoyment of the tourist practice; and they also seem to demonstrate that the challenge to promote social inclusion through tourism is related to the incorporation of all dimensions of the accessibility commitment. Thus, if the “Sun and Beach Tourism” cannot be considered totally excluding, on the other hand it is not possible to effectively guarantee that “there will be a beach”, it is necessary to advance in the aspects of autonomy, safety and convenience.
