A BIBLIOGRAPHIC AND SYSTEMATIC ANALYSIS OF THE ACADEMIC LITERATURE ON THE TERMS “SMART CITIES”, “TOURISM” AND “COMPETITIVENESS”

ABSTRACT:

Smart Cities has been the subject of research in the search for solutions in the most diverse areas of knowledge and the economy. Tourism is no different, with destinations making increasing use of the technological infrastructure to generate competitiveness. The general objective of this study is to analyze, in the current academic literature, the evolution of the concepts “Smart Cities”, “Tourism” and “Competitiveness”. The methodology consisted of bibliographic research and systematic analysis, through a comparative longitudinal review of the last ten years. The study shows and compares the search for national and international articles in consolidated databases that make an interconnection between the terms. The results showed that on one hand, the use of the term “Smart City” is increasing, but on the other, the connection of the terms does not reproduce the positive perspective in the research. Nationally, the data collected was not sufficient for an in-depth analysis in any of the terms, far less the connection between them. It is therefore concluded that, given the importance of the terms, there is a lag in the production of national works, compared to international works.
