Airbnb in Brazil: a new research agenda for the urban studies

Abstract

Airbnb is a short-rental company that has been growing rapidly and today is present all over the world. There is an extensive international bibliography that has sought to address the dynamics imposed by this new agent. Despite this, in Brazil there are few studies on the changes promoted by Airbnb in the urban space. We aim to offer Brazilian researchers a research agenda on Airbnb interference in contemporary urban dynamics. Methodologically, we present the emergence of Airbnb and its insertion in the Sharing Economy. We organized the available bibliography into three major thematic groups dealing with Airbnb. We conclude by offering a research agenda for Airbnb in Brazil according to the themes identified in the bibliography concerning changes in contemporary urban dynamics.
