Open-access TRANScity: the urban walkgraphy in the center of Pelotas/RS

Abstract

The article explores the concept of "TRANScity" through the practice of urban walkgraphy in the center of Pelotas/RS. The aim is to provide a new perspective on the city center, redefining it as an innovative "TRANS-city-body". The approach is guided by queer theory and its inherent micro resistances, challenging pre-established norms by mapping everyday urban life and destabilizing certainties, creating space for new urban nuances and engagements. The philosophy of difference acts as an intermediary, guiding the transformation of conventional concepts of urban experience. The investigation reveals various TRANS facets in the city center, where revolutionary dispersion coexists with the traditional historical center, extensive exchange blends with intensive commerce, and enduring structuring intertwines with passenger flow. The article is grounded in "collective writings" and records generated during pedestrian explorations. The resulting cartography from this journey exudes power and intensity, demonstrating a high degree of TRANScity. This TRANScends current knowledge and exact purpose, going beyond the purely physical and functional approaches applied to urban management, but resonates vividly in the city's pulse, with an intensity that echoes in the vibrations of urban life and death.
