Mosaic of intra-urban social inequality in Macapá - Amapá (2000-2010)

Abstract

This study evaluates the spatial dynamics of social exclusion and inclusion in the urban territory of Macapá, Amapá, between 2000 and 2010. It draws attention to the debate around processes of social exclusion at different scales, especially in the context of medium-sized cities in the Amazon. This is association research using interference between variables, based on statistical and vector data. Employing quantitative and comparative methods, the research combines existing methodologies for the Social Exclusion/ Inclusion Index and the Statistical Grid system. The results showed significant changes in spatial patterns of social exclusion/inclusion with the start of the decentralization process of inclusion indicators in 2010. It can be concluded that there has been a reduction in the population of Macapa living in socially excluded areas, despite low rates of social inclusion over the decade in question.
