This article seeks to show how during much of 18th century teachings on perspective taking place at the academies of military engineers had to rid itself of the symbolic character it bore during many years for/ architects, painters, and sculptors. Through the case study of the Royal Academy of Mathematics of Barcelona, it is evident that this discipline became - along with statistics, mechanics, and other mathematical sciences - a reachable universe of knowledge for engineers in modern times.
