Presently, few issues are raised regarding the morphology of green areas in urban or rural colonial settlements. Historical characterization of open spaces, relative to their shapes and dimensions, allows us to know the techniques for cultivation and traditions associated to the colonial's process of adaptation to the specificities of the occupied territory. It also permits us to understand the layout of its different parts and structural elements. In the present study we prioritize the understanding of fields in their materiality (improvements, natural resources, ambiances and techniques used). The result achieved by our study leads us to notice the continuity of knowledge associated to agricultural culture. Such is perceived through the continuity of indigenous techniques, handed down through generations of small rural producers in Brazil.
