Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Graduate Courses
The history of the Graduate Program of the EEUSP - Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade de São Paulo, the University of São Paulo Nursing School - exceeds 30 years!
Our history began in 1973, with the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem - Graduate Program in Nursing - (PPGE). In 1981 the Programa Interunidades de Doutoramento em Enfermagem - Inter-Units Graduate Program in Nursing - of the São Paulo and Ribeirão Preto campi was organized. It was followed, in 2000, by the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem na Saúde do Adulto - Graduate Program in Nursing on Adult Health - (PROESA).
At the closure of the EEUSP's Graduate Department 30th Anniversary Year, the programs' advisors analyzed the knowledge produced along the way, described the path in which the Graduate Department evolved and pointed out trends. This special issue is the "memory" of the event. We wish to thank the REEUSP for this opportunity.
The figures of EEUSP's Graduate Program are significant. We have two Master's Degree and three Ph.D's programs, more than sixty advisors, seventy disciplines and an average of 250 students each year.
The scope of our courses is remarkable. Concentration areas and research lines encompass the most important fields of knowledge in Nursing: collective health, mental health, maternal-child health, adult health and administration. Research lines make possible the production of applied knowledge and of theoretical models, of quantitative and qualitative studies, of research on intervention and of comprehension of a phenomenon.
In a way, through our graduates, we are the "mother" of many Graduate programs all over Brazil as well as some in Latin America, of which we take great pride.
We have accepted the challenges posed by Science, by Nursing, by our University and by federal organs, true to our social role as individuals, as nurses and as researchers. Part of what we do or have done is described here. We urge you to appreciate it!
