Basic information
Contexto Internacional is one of the leading journals in international relations within Brazil. Published since 1985, Contexto’s history and development parallels that of the Institute of International Relations at PUC-Rio as an important forum for rigorous and innovative research that challenges the boundaries of IR, with a particular scope in the dynamics and challenges experienced within and around the Global South. From its inception, the journal has been known for publishing articles that bridge the gap between policy and theoretical analysis, privileging an interdisciplinary look at issues that are of utmost concern for global affairs. In its current format, Contexto aims at linking research from different parts of the world that delve critically into issues surrounding the Global South. Contexto is published in English. The editors invite submissions from researchers and practitioners from all over the globe, especially senior and junior scholars, and PhD students in the fields of International Relations, Political Science and related fields, whose work might contribute to a better understanding of international issues in a changing world. Contexto is particularly suited for innovative, investigative and exploratory articles that provide insight into the realities and situated knowledges that stem from and around the Global South. Contexto warmly welcomes original research articles and proposals for special issues around themes that are central to the current international agenda and to the field of International Relations. If you are interested in submitting a special issue proposal, please check in advance with the Editors at cintjournal@puc-rio.br. We also welcome review essays and book reviews in an effort to provide an overarching and reflexive coverage of contemporary political analysis and academic debate within the large and increasingly interdisciplinary field of international affairs. We strongly encourage doctoral students to submit review essays and book reviews that speak to the scope of the journal. All contributions are submitted to double blind peer review and are rigorously evaluated by experts. Submissions must be original and must not have been submitted for publication elsewhere while under consideration by Contexto. In exceptional circumstances, articles that have been previously published in languages other than English and that provide original and groundbreaking contributions to the field might be considered by the Editors. The author alone is responsible for ensuring that no copyrights are violated in such cases. Contexto’s average rejection rate is 0.56 as of 2016. Publication Ethics Contexto Internacional believes in the importance of following publication ethics, in order to maintain its quality, and meet the expectations of its authors and readers. The journal follows the instructions of the Committee on Publication Ethics – COPE, such as: maintain academic integrity; publish errata whenever necessary; make sure that the papers are reviewed by qualified peers; provide accountability. More information about the COPE publication ethics instructions can be found here: http://publicationethics.org/files/Research_institutions_guidelines_final.pdf. Call for Papers Contexto Internacional welcomes submissions of original research articles, review essays, book reviews on a continuous base. It also invites special issues proposals. Contexto considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that they have been submitted only to Contexto, that they have not been published already, nor are they under consideration for publication or in press elsewhere. Contributions to Contexto must report original research and will be subjected to review by referees at the discretion of the Editorial Office. Manuscripts and proposals may be written either in English, French, Portuguese, or Spanish, and will be reviewed in the language of submission. However, if the review process results in a decision to publish, it is the responsibility of the author alone to translate the article into English. Contexto reserves the right to reject articles if the level of English is insufficient. All manuscripts should be properly referenced following the Harvard Referencing System, and strictly follow Contexto Internacional’s style norms. Scope and policy
Contexto Internacional is committed to publishing analytically strong and theoretically original scholarship in International Relations and related fields. Contexto is particularly suited for innovative, investigative and exploratory articles that provide insight into the realities and situated knowledges that stem from and around the Global South. Contexto Internacional is published in English, three times a year. The editors invite submissions from researchers and practitioners from all over the globe, especially senior and junior scholars, and PhD students in the fields of International Relations, Political Science and related fields. The journal accepts submissions of research articles, review essays, book reviews, and proposals for special issues, especially proposals centred on themes relevant to the problems and political processes affecting the Global South and to the development of a more diverse understanding of International Relations. Manuscripts may be submitted in English (the journal language), French, Portuguese, or Spanish. Manuscripts are reviewed in the language of submission. If the review process results in a decision to publish, it is the responsibility of the author alone to translate the article into English. Contexto reserves the right to reject articles if the level of English is insufficient. Contexto Internacional adopts a rigorous double-blind peer-reviewing policy. The response from the first round of reviews will normally be provided within 120 days from the submission. Authors are expected to correct and return proofs of accepted articles within 48 hours of receipt. Authors should hold a PhD or be enrolled in a PhD program, and/or have a strong professional/academic background in International Relations, Political Science or related field at the time of submission. In co-authored manuscripts, at least one of the authors should meet that criteria fully. The editors will reject manuscripts before review if they are not suitable for the journal, for example, because of low adherence to Contexto’s editorial policy and scope, inadequate or imprecise analytical development, inconsistent formatting or non-compliance with our submission guidelines, and poor writing style (this list is not exhaustive). Publication Process Contexto Internacional adopts a rigorous six-phase publication process, as follows:
Copyright All content published by Contexto, except where identified, is licensed under a Creative Commons attribution-type BY-NC. It is a condition of publication that all contributing authors grant to Contexto Internacional the necessary rights to the copyright in all articles submitted to the Journal. Authors are required to sign an Article Publishing Agreement to facilitate this. This will ensure the widest dissemination and protection against copyright infringement of articles. The “article” is defined as comprising the final, definitive, and citable Version of Scholarly Record, and includes: (a) the accepted manuscript in its final and revised form, including the text, abstract, and all accompanying tables, illustrations, data; and (b) any supplemental material. As an author, you are required to secure permission to reproduce any proprietary text, illustration, table, or other material, including data, audio, video, film stills, and screenshots, and any supplemental material you propose to submit. This applies to direct reproduction as well as “derivative reproduction” (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). The reproduction of short extracts of text, excluding poetry and song lyrics, for the purposes of criticism may be possible without formal permission on the basis that the quotation is reproduced accurately and full attribution is given. Contexto Internacional allows authors to self-archive their work in institutional repositories, personal webpages or other serf-archiving systems, provided that they clearly indicate that the article has been published in Contexto Internacional, and that they provide the link to the original publication in www.scielo.br/cint. |
