Journal history
Revista Ceres is a bimonthly Scientific Journal of the Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil, that publishes original articles related to plant production; soil and plant nutrition; plant breeding applied to agriculture; plant health; physiology and morphology applied to agriculture; vegetative and seminiferous propagation; agricultural engineering; animal production and health applied to agriculture. In August 1939, the Escola Superior de Agricultura e Veterinária de Minas Gerais (College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of Minas Gerais), now the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Federal University of Viçosa), published the first issue of Ceres. The name was extended to Revista Ceres from September/October 1944. Its first board of directors was formed by the eminent Professors Nello de Moura Rangel, Geraldo Gonçalves Carneiro, Octavio Drummond, Edgard de Vasconcelos Barros and Arlindo de Paula Gonçalves. Today, after more than 70 years of existence, it is one of the oldest agricultural journals in Brazil. Initially, the journal published both original scientific papers and technical communications, but, over the years, it has become increasingly scientific and the last technical communications were published in 1959. Currently, the journal publishes only articles written in English as a means to provide greater visibility to papers. Since 2008, Revista Ceres has provided open access to its articles at the site www.ceres.ufv.br. Subscription is not currently required to access Revista Ceres contents online. |

Open-access policy
The journal Revista Ceres offers free digital access to its content quickly and securely. In line with our values, we believe that freely available scientific knowledge to the whole (national and international) community provides greater dissemination and democratization of knowledge, resulting in faster and consistent technological advances. |
Anti-plagiarism policy
Revista Ceres is one of the oldest and most traditional periodicals in Brazil. Therefore, we value the quality, reputation, and originality of the publications. In this sense, the manuscripts sent to the Revista Ceres must be unpublished. Texts, tables, and figures may not have been previously published in other scientific dissemination vehicles. Therefore, the authors should assume the responsibility that the submitted articles are original and that they do not contain parts of texts, data, tables or figures, previously published. The faking of data is a serious misconduct. To ensure the originality of the published works, Revista Ceres uses the CrossRef Similarity Check software as an antiplagiarism tool. |
