Contrast sensitivity test and glare test in cataract

RESUMO

Objetivo:

Estudar a aplicação de teste de ofuscamento e a medida da função da sensibilidade ao contraste em pacientes com diagnóstico de catarata.

Métodos:

Foram selecionados 20 olhos de vinte pacientes consecutivos com diagnóstico de catarata apresentando idade média de 64,9 anos e com acuidade visual≥ 20/40. Todos foram submetidos à exame oftalmológico completo e a acuidade visual foi mensurada com a Tabela de Snellen, com Tabela do VCTS 6500 (Vistech Consultants, Inc.) e com o MCT 8000 (Vistech Consultants, Inc.).

Resultados:

Os resultados foram convertidos para escala log MAR e mostraram que VCT 6500 e MCT 8000, são capazes de aferir uma mudança na acuidade visual noturna e diurna dos pacientes portadores de catarata.

Conclusões:

Os autores concluem que os dois testes são auxiliares valiosos na indicação cirúrgica de facectomia em pacientes portadores de catarata com acuidade visual ≥ 20/40.

SUMMARY

Purpose:

To verify the clinical usefulness of glare test and to measure contrast sensitivity function in patients with cataract.

Methods:

Twenty eyes from 20 consecutive cataract patients were studied. Mean age was 64. 9 years. Ali were submitted to a complete ophthalmological examination and had their visual acuity measured using the Snellen Chart, the VCTS 6500 Chart ( Vistech Consultants, Inc.) and MCT 8000 ( Vistech Consultants, Inc.).

Results:

The results were converted to a MAR log scale and they showed that VCT 6500 and MCT 8000 are able to measure a change in the day and night visual acuity in patients with cataract.

Conclusions:

The authors concluded that the two tests are valuable a uxilia ry to o ls when s uggesting phakectomy surgery in cataract patients with visual acuity ≥ 20140.
