Abstract in English: Abstract This article reflects on how racially and economically marginalized groups can appropriate sociolinguistic resources historically dominated by elites, such as English. By reconfiguring legitimized domains of circulation and the functions of these resources within structures of domination, members of these groups can redirect them toward emancipatory purposes. Based on the discursive practices of three Black Brazilian feminists — Marielle Franco, Anielle Franco, and Pamella Passos — and especially on their intertextual engagements with Conceição Evaristo’s notion of escrevivência, I discuss how English and other semiotic resources, such as institutional literacies, have been reinscribed by them into alternative, affective, and collective domains. Rather than seeking passive inclusion in legitimized spaces, these intellectuals construct insurgent forms of presence, promote critical intrusion into hegemonic domains, and reposition language as a practice of survival, listening, and hope. Rooted in the Brazilian context, these reconfigurations also resonate with transnational experiences of contesting linguistic colonialism. |

Language Studies: Article BRIDGING PHILOSOPHY AND PRACTICE: TEACHER AND STUDENT ROLES IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING Zulaiha, Dewi Margana, Margana Sukarno, Sukarno Abstract in English: Abstract The roles of teachers and students in English Language Teaching (ELT) are inextricably shaped by underlying philosophical orientations. This literature review investigates how major educational philosophies, including essentialism, progressivism, constructivism, humanism, perennialism, reconstructionism, and critical pedagogy, inform the conceptualization and enactment of teacher and student roles in ELT classrooms. Drawing on a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of eight peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2020 and 2025, this study identifies thematic patterns that reflect the philosophical undercurrents shaping pedagogical practice. |

Abstract in English: Abstract This study analyses the use of personal pronouns as markers of involved discourse, with the use of passive voice as a marker of informational discourse. The goal is to understand these linguistic choices in English made by authors in the field of Agrarian Sciences regarding these markers, since there are few studies on the academic features of this area (Shi; Wannaruk, 2014; Teixeira et al., 2022). This work, from a quantitative basis, was developed with the support of computational tools and the "Corpus of Agrarian Sciences Scientific Articles" (CorAgrarian) (Teixeira et al. 2022; Marques 2024), with approximately 2,500,000 words. The results indicate that research articles in this field display both involved discourse and informational discourse markers, reflecting a balance between authorial presence and impersonality. |

Language Studies: Article LOCAL TEXTBOOK PRODUCTION AS DECOLONIAL PRAXIS: COLLABORATIVE DESIGN, WORKFLOW, AND EPISTEMIC INTERVENTION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ZEITGEIST Aquino, Marceli Abstract in English: Abstract This article examines Zeitgeist, a collaboratively authored German language textbook produced in Brazilian public universities, as a decolonial pedagogical intervention and model of locally grounded materials design. Based on critical document analysis and a reconstruction of the collaborative workflow, the study shows how decolonial principles shaped planning, writing, piloting, revision, and multimodal production. It highlights thematic organization, pluricentric phonetics, authentic texts, participatory authorship, and diverse voices and accents as resistance to Eurocentric textbook models. By presenting this workflow as adaptable, the article offers guidance for Global South contexts working with limited funding and uneven infrastructure. Zeitgeist thus emerges as an epistemic praxis that redefines whose knowledge shapes language education. |

Abstract in English: Abstract Madness is an aspect of human experience that frightens and fascinates, and which has great potential for tragedy. William Shakespeare failed not to seize that opportunity. In this paper, we discuss the representation of madness in three of his tragedies: Hamlet, Macbeth and King Lear. After the contemporary perceptions of madness and the relevant literary context are presented, the plays are debated individually in their madness-related content. In Hamlet, Ophelia and the protagonist are discussed; in Macbeth, the royal couple and the witches; in Lear, Edgar and the protagonist. Madness is a very rich topic in the poet’s work, and it is related to medicine, religion, politics and culture. It will be shown that madness was closely associated with crises of sovereignty, and with both the supernatural and the forces of nature. Suicide and suicidal ideations are common among maddened and melancholy characters, as it is the case in real life. Madness in the dramaturgy of the period is sometimes inscribed in speech, sometimes in the body, and its connection to demonic possession was being then demystified, stage representations having their part in that. |

Abstract in English: Abstract Auto/biographical writings by authors who have become caregivers for people with dementias, such as Alzheimer’s disease, have been published since the 1980s, particularly in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Similar Brazilian texts, however, have begun to appear with greater frequency only over the past decade. This study seeks to provide the first comprehensive survey of all works of this kind published in Brazil, with attention to the referential and representative nature of the corpus in relation to statistical data on caregivers of people with dementia. Accordingly, we will examine issues of gender, location and conditions of care, race or ethnicity, and social class of the authors and their relatives, along with a brief commentary on the paratextual resources found in the works. We will then propose two primary modes for classifying caregiver narratives—a tragic mode and a pragmatic mode—in order to discuss, in a more didactic manner, the formal configurations of this subgenre and the key questions raised in similar texts, such as the presumption of identity loss in the person with dementia and the ethical tensions involved in narrating and reflecting upon the burdens of the caregiving experience without reproducing culturally pervasive stigmas and stereotypes surrounding dementia and ageing, nor violating the privacy of someone incapable of understanding or consenting to their participation in the process. Finally, we will undertake a more detailed analysis of Elaine Tavares’s Boa noite, seu Tavares (2025), which will serve both to exemplify the characteristics of the two modes discussed above and to offer a glance into the ethical/social paradigm of life writing. Along the way, we will seek to systematize the main theoretical contributions that have addressed similar objects, with the aim of facilitating the further development of these questions in future research. |

Literature and Cultural Studies: Article SCIENCE FICTION: GENRE AND/OR MODE? Pereira, Valéria Sabrina Abstract in English: Abstract This article aims to present the discussion about the definition of Science Fiction as a genre, including older studies that enable a deeper understanding of the current theory. In addition, I revisit Patrick Parrinder's (1980) initial assertion that Science Fiction should not only be understood as a genre, but also as a mode, which can facilitate the discussion about various works that flirt with science-fictional aspects without really delving into them. Finally, a discussion about the British New Wave as a crisis of the genre is made, to support the theory that Science Fiction should be regarded both as a genre and a mode. |

Estudos Literários e Culturais: Artigo THE PLACE OF THE POET IN RENAISSANCE DRAMA: BETWEEN NEW AND OLD IN SIR THOMAS MORE (1600; 1603-4) Closel, Régis Augustus Bars Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo Ao longo do século XVI, na Inglaterra, muitos poetas ocuparam posições de destaque na vida política, alguns ligados à nobreza, e outros de origens mais humildes. A partir dessas representações, articuladas a episódios biográficos de poetas e ao desenvolvimento histórico da poesia, o artigo examina como o poeta emerge como alguém “fora de lugar”.Abstract in English: Abstract Throughout Renaissance England, many poets held important positions in political life, some had a noble background while others had modest ones. During this period, blank verse consolidated, vernacular literature expanded, and drama became central to cultural production. Poets occasionally appear on stage as characters, as in Sir Thomas More (1600) by Anthony Munday and Henry Chettle, where three poets share the stage: Erasmus of Rotterdam, the educational reformer; the Earl of Surrey, the English introducer of blank verse; and More himself. These characters confront their political Tudor setting and occupy the position of “strangers” at Court. Drawing on these depictions, along with some poets’ biographical episodes and the historical development of poetry, this article examines how the poet emerges as someone riskily “out of place.” |
