Policies for the media: from the military to Lula administration

The Press and the State in Brasil have developed a relation of interdependence. Press companies and broadcasting corporations depend on state money for its proper sustenance, and politicians depend on the press and the exposition in the media to link with their electorate. This work analyses this relation of interdependence in national history, following a chronological order, starting from the establishment of the military governments in 1964, a mark of a deep reform of the broadcasting and the press. The conclusion makes clear the urgency of a revision in the laws that regulate the media, many of which failing a proper application, and questions the independence of the Brazilian political representatives to proceed with the necessary reforms and to fight for new public policies to the sector.
