On the basis of a reconstruction of its political and economic history in the last three decades the present situation of, and the perspectives for, Argentina are examined. The chief current forms of doing politics are dealt with regarding the ability of a democracy restricted to an impoverished version of representation to face the deep social crisis of recent years.
