RESUMO Este trabalho se propõe a revisitar as noções de “vida sob cerco” e “sociabilidade violenta” a partir de pesquisas etnográficas realizadas na última década. O artigo analisa as transformações que a inauguração das Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora gerou na vida cotidiana de favelas cariocas e no chamado “mundo do crime”. Além disso, visa compreender o momento atual, investigando os efeitos da “crise” das UPPs e o “legado” da “pacificação”.

ABSTRACT The paper proposes to revisit the notions of “life under siege” and “violent sociability” based on ethnographic research conducted in the last decade. The article analyzes the transformations that the inauguration of Pacification Police Unit Program generated in the daily life of Rio’s favelas and in the so-called “world of crime”. In addition, it aims to understand the current moment by investigating the effects of the “crisis” in the UPPs and the “legacy” of “pacification”.

RESUMO O artigo explora o dissenso político-cognitivo do conceito de “guerra” do ponto de vista específico do “crime” em São Paulo e no Rio de Janeiro. Explora essa perspectiva por meio de duas cenas descritivas que permitem aproximações das práticas criminais nas duas cidades. Para tanto, a análise versa sobre uma ética que ao mesmo tempo forja e move os “guerreiros” para os caminhos incertos do crime, da vida e da morte.

ABSTRACT This paper addresses the political cognitive dissention around the concept of “war” and, from the stand of view of “crime”, analyzes the ethic reflection that forges and moves “warriors” in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Based on two ethnographic scenes, reflects upon how “criminals” seek to build valorous forms of life amid the conduction towards death and by the means of memorable acts, courage of public exposure, and responsibility for the word.

RESUMO Resultado de etnografia realizada em espaços de consumo e comércio de crack nas cidades de São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro, entre 2009 e 2016, este artigo descreve diferentes conformações territoriais de regiões estigmatizadas como “cracolândias”. A partir da observação dos mercados criminais de cada cidade, são expostos eixos empíricos que permitem ensaiar correlações entre as dinâmicas de varejo e a produção dos territórios de consumo.

ABSTRACT This article describes, using the results of an ethnography carried out between 2009 and 2016 in spaces of crack consumption and trade in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, different territorial conformations of regions stigmatized as “cracolândias” (crack lands). Observing the criminal markets of each city, empirical axes are exposed in order to propose correlations between the retail dynamics and the production of consumption territories.

RESUMO Se o parque penitenciário paulista se caracteriza pela dispersão de unidades pelo interior do estado, no Rio boa parte das prisões concentra-se em um único bairro da capital. Neste artigo, contrastamos esses arranjos heterogêneos, perseguindo diferenças e ressonâncias, e procurando jogar luz sobre as condições de possibilidade que sustentam a atual e reiterada aposta governamental na segregação carcerária.

ABSTRACT While the São Paulo penitentiary park is characterized by the dispersion of units throughout the state, in Rio de Janeiro most prisons are concentrated in a single neighborhood of the capital. In this article we contrast these heterogeneous arrangements, pursuing differences and resonances, and seeking to shed light on the conditions of possibility that underpin the current and repeated governmental bet on prison segregation.

RESUMO As desigualdades seguem extremas no Brasil, em termos absolutos e de oportunidades. Para avançar será necessário investir mais na área social. Recursos viriam da eliminação de subsídios e impostos regressivos e de reformas da previdência e do Estado. Essas três fontes reduziriam diretamente a desigualdade e a incerteza macroeconômica. Conclui-se que distribuir e crescer são objetivos complementares e politicamente essenciais.

ABSTRACT Inequality remains high in Brazil, in absolute terms, and opportunities wise. In order to advance, it will be necessary to invest more in the social sphere. Resources would come from the elimination of regressive taxes and subsidies, and from social security and State reforms. These sources should also have a direct benefic impact on inequality and macro uncertainty. Thus, distribution and growth are essential and complementary goals.

RESUMO Este ensaio apresenta alguns dos resultados de uma pesquisa sobre os oficiais do Exército Brasileiro, patrocinada pela Capes, no âmbito do Edital Pró-Defesa. Trata-se de um survey nacional, cujo questionário foi enviado a 20.435 oficiais da ativa e possibilitou a construção de um banco de dados contendo as respostas de 2.423 entrevistados. Serão apresentadas as percepções desses oficiais acerca da instituição em que atuam e da democracia brasileira.

ABSTRACT This essay presents some of the results of a survey of Brazilian Army officers, sponsored by Capes, within the scope of the Edital Pró-Defesa. It’s a national survey, whose questionnaire was sent to 20,435 active officers and allowed the construction of a database containing the answers of 2,423 respondents. The perceptions of these officials about their institution and about Brazilian democracy will be presented.

RESUMO Este artigo pretende estabelecer em que medida o STF comprometeu-se argumentativamente a sustentar a inconstitucionalidade de possível legislação restritiva ao casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo, com base nos argumentos que fundamentaram sua decisão sobre união estável homoafetiva. Conclui-se que a separação da litigância sobre união estável e casamento pode ter resultado em risco de retrocesso em relação aos direitos das pessoas homossexuais.

ABSTRACT This paper investigates how far the Brazilian Supreme Court has argumentatively committed itself to upholding same-sex marriage in the face of prospective restrictive legislation based on the reasoning the court used in its 2011 ruling about same-sex domestic partnerships. The paper concludes that the separation of litigation over domestic partnerships and marriage may have led to the risk of a regressive turn concerning gay rights on this matter.

RESUMO O artigo revisita a bossa nova e o tropicalismo por meio de uma dimensão até hoje pouco analisada: as relações entre modos de compor e modos de morar, com foco no entrelaçamento entre domesticidade, gênero e produção musical. Sustentado pelo pressuposto de que as casas envolvem a produção e a internalização de princípios hierárquicos, dispositivos classificatórios e mecanismos de subjetivação, atiçados e enredados pelos marcadores sociais de classe, gênero, geração e raça, o artigo analisa os apartamentos de Nara Leão e de Caetano Veloso. Amplia, assim, a compreensão dos vínculos da bossa nova com experiência urbana no Rio de Janeiro e do tropicalismo com a dinâmica cultural e urbana de São Paulo.

Abstract in English:

ABSTRACT The article intends to understand two important musical movements within the Brazilian culture, bossa nova and tropicalismo, through a dimension seldom explored, that is, the way the artists´ homes, spaces for subjectivity as well as for living domesticity, helped to shape the sociability, the musical practices and the gender relations within the artistic production in the two biggest Brazilian metropolis. As far as bossa nova is linked to the urban experience in Rio de Janeiro, tropicalismo is rooted, for a while, to the cultural and urban dynamics of São Paulo. The article is founded on interconnected grounds: first, in the idea that houses depend on the making of and on the internalization of hierarchical principles, of classifying patterns and of subjective dispositions; second, houses as artifacts which express worldviews and manners of behaving in space. These intertwined fundamentals open up promising ways of tackling the relations between the city and the cultural production, rooted in social marks of class, gender, race and generation.
