TEACHERS AT ALL TIMES: A STUDY ON MATERIAL, PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF TEACHERS IN HIGHER EDUCATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 caused changes in the social organization of work, caused mainly by the expansion of remote work, and affected Brazilian workers, already affected by the successive labor and social security reforms carried out especially over the past three decades. It was no different with teaching work. This article aims to analyze how the material, physical and emotional conditions of university professors who worked in the face-to-face learning in the pre-pandemic period affect this subject at the time of the pandemic. For this we adopted in the research a qualitative design, which included the conduct and content analysis of 18 interviews with teachers, who worked during the first semester of 2020 teaching classes for undergraduate and specialization courses in Administration and Accounting. The results indicate that the emergency adaptations made in the organization of work and the inadequacy of the available material resources overloaded teachers with new functions and activities, with harmful effects on their physical and psychological conditions. The absence of institutional support for teaching work was also a marked feature identified in the period.
