NORBERT ELIAS’ THINKING: CONTRIBUTIONS TO ORGANIZATIONAL STUDIES

Norbert Elias is inscribed in a critical perspective to the predominant sociological theory of his time, noddedly the structure-functionalism. He refuses to understand terms such as "structure" and "function" in a static frame of reference, which tends to assume a certain determinism and little possibility of perception of social dynamics. This article seeks to synthesize, in an integrated and articulated way, its main conceptions in order to bring contributions to the field of organizational studies. In this aspect, the combination of different sociological perspectives stands out, giving it a unique and peculiar approach, within the so-called sociology of processes or figurational sociology, in which he refuses the individual/society dichotomy and the reification of concepts, articulating psychogenesis and sociogenesis as inseparable elements for understanding social life in the long term. Although he is not a theorist or analyst of organizations, his theorization and method of analysis allow advances to understand relevant issues, such as organizational dynamics, identity, power relations, as well as to think of the organization as a figuration.
