Open-access Salvador and Gala Dalí: an unique partner

Abstract

This study proposes reading the relationship between Salvador and Gala Dalí to characterize a possible functioning of the partner in psychoses. Our approach begins by considering that the consistent bonds psychoses established go beyond conformist identification as an explanatory principle. The use of the term partner implies a functioning of support and knotting that articulates the veil of the dimension of the object. Reconstructing the lives of Salvador and Gala from this point of view sheds light on a type of bond in which the partner has the trait of uniqueness and unifying power, an invaluable resource to sustain Dali’s daily life and artistic creation, the one that configures a know-how with the real that is imposed on him as an invasion of images and sensations.

Key words:
Partner; psychosis; knotting; support
