Interações (Campo Grande) was created by the Doctoral and Master’s Program in Local Development of the Universidade Católica Dom Bosco (UCDB), headquartered in Campo Grande, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and is linked to the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Graduate Studies.

Since its first issue, in September 2000, the journal has aimed to provide support for the adoption of new local forms of social behavior, seeking endogenous development through its own instruments, rules, and strategies.

In 2017, the journal was classified as A3 in the Qualis/CAPES evaluation, the third-highest general rating level. As of v. 26 (2025), Interações has adopted a continuous publication system (rolling pass), making article publication faster.

In addition, the journal has become an essential tool for the Graduate Program in Local Development – Academic Master’s and Doctorate – with the aim of consolidating publications that contribute not only to the training of researchers but also to the constant updating of knowledge in the field.

With these purposes in mind, Interações seeks to promote discussions and disseminate research that encourages reflection on new approaches and practices in the field of Local Development, thus contributing to scientific advancement and the improvement of knowledge in this area of study.

This journal follows the Open Access model, allowing unrestricted virtual access (including financial restrictions) to all scientific texts published by the journal.

Open access means that the copyright holder of an academic work grants usage rights to third parties through an open license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC-BY), allowing immediate free access to the work and authorizing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, track them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose.

Interações is committed to Open Science communication practices, a new way of formatting, designing, managing, communicating, and evaluating research and its dissemination, based on transparency of processes and the availability of the components that underlie its communication, such as methods, data, and computer programs.

This openness includes and promotes significant changes in the journal’s editorial work, contributing to accelerating research publication through continuous publishing and the use of preprint repositories, facilitating article evaluation, research replicability, and reuse of collected data.

The adoption and improvement of scientific communication practices in line with Open Science encourages the publication of preprint articles on public platforms, such as Preprints and SciELO, so that they can be openly discussed before being published.

Preprints are manuscripts ready for submission to a journal, which are deposited in an open-access web server beforehand by the author, or in parallel with submission to the journal, by the author or the journal. The use of preprints as an option requires that, when submitting the article to the journal, the author informs whether the manuscript is deposited in a preprint server, as well as its name and URL.

This pre-publication, in addition to speeding up the communication of research results, allows the author to receive feedback from readers and make modifications deemed relevant.

Articles submitted for publication must be unpublished, in print or electronic media, except for those made available in preprint repositories, and cannot be simultaneously submitted for evaluation in another journal.

At the time of submission, the corresponding author must complete and attach the Open Science Compliance Form, informing: (a) whether the manuscript is a preprint and, if so, its location; (b) whether data, program codes, and other materials underlying the text of the manuscript are properly cited and referenced; and (c) whether they accept options for openness in the peer review process.

Interações is grounded in the principles of the SciELO Codes of Ethics, present in the Guide of Good Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publishing; in the Principles of Transparency and Best Practices in Scholarly Publishing recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE); in the principles of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ); and in the principles of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA).

For research carried out in virtual environments, the reference is the document of the National Research Ethics Commission (CONEP). For researchers abroad, an equivalent document must be consulted, or contact should be made with the editorial office.

Interações aims to promote the production and dissemination of high-quality knowledge on the theme of Local Development.

With a broad scope, the journal covers various aspects related to this area, seeking to contribute to academic advancement and the practice of Local Development.

Open Access: Interações accepts the publication of preprint articles, which, in addition to accelerating the communication of research results, allow authors to receive feedback from readers and make modifications deemed relevant.

A preprint is defined as a manuscript ready for submission to a journal, deposited in reliable preprint servers before or in parallel with journal submission.

The use of preprints is the author’s choice, and it is required that, at the time of submission to the journal, through the Open Science Compliance Form, the name of the preprint server and the DOI of the preprint be provided.

Interações adopts a rigorous peer review process to ensure the quality and relevance of the articles selected for publication. This process consists of several stages and involves the participation of a team of specialists in the field of Local Development. The steps are as follows:

1. Initial evaluation by the Editors-in-Chief: upon receiving submissions, the editors-in-chief conduct an initial assessment. At this stage, they analyze the alignment of the articles with the journal’s scope and editorial guidelines. Articles undergo a Desk Review, and if they meet the criteria, they move to the next stage.
2. Evaluation by associate editors and editorial board: articles selected in the previous stage are sent for evaluation. These specialists have expertise in the specific areas addressed by the articles and conduct a detailed assessment. They consider originality, relevance, methodology, structure, and contribution to the field of Local Development.
3. Ad hoc reviewers: in certain cases, the Editorial Board may request evaluation by ad hoc reviewers. This occurs when deeper analysis is needed or when the specificity of the subject area requires additional expertise.
4. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are reviewed under a double-blind peer review system, in which authors and reviewers remain anonymous. In line with SciELO’s guidelines to advance transparency and openness in peer review, the journal publishes, in the final article, the name(s) of the editor(s) responsible for conducting the evaluation, as required by the SciELO collection. In addition, the journal offers reviewers the option to communicate directly with the corresponding author, with or without revealing their identities, and allows the publication of reviewers’ approval reports, also with or without identification. These measures aim to strengthen integrity, transparency, and trust in the editorial process.

The Interações journal adopts clear criteria, in accordance with the principles of SciELO and other indexers, for the availability of data.

In line with Open Science processes, authors are requested to share all content (data, software code, and other materials) underlying the manuscript text, either before or at the time of publication. Exceptions are permitted in cases involving legal or ethical concerns.

The goal is to facilitate manuscript evaluation and, if approved, to contribute to the preservation and reuse of data and information, as well as the replicability of research.

For sharing, authors may use their institution’s repository, as well as identify relevant and certified repositories: SciELO list of repositories for research data deposit.

Alternatively, the author may declare that the data will be made available upon direct request to the author or that all data are contained and discussed in the article.

This journal does NOT charge submission or publication fees for any texts.

When submitting an article for publication in Interações, the author must declare that all ethical guidelines concerning the integrity of scientific activities carried out during the research were respected, as well as disclose funding sources, such as research agencies. If applicable, the author must declare that the ethical principles were submitted to and approved by their institution’s ethics committee. Compliance with good research ethics practices is the sole responsibility of the author.

All articles will be evaluated disregarding social markers of difference, such as gender, sexual orientation, race, religious belief, nationality, among others, as well as the political positions of the authors.

Regarding authorship, all individuals who contributed to the conception, development, and analysis of the presented data are considered authors. It is therefore the responsibility of the author to identify and include all co-authors who effectively collaborated in writing the article. All authors must explicitly accept responsibility for the content of the article and register their respective contributions at the end of the manuscript if accepted for publication.

If the author discovers any significant error after publication, they must immediately notify the editors so that appropriate errata may be published.

Regarding misconduct, including plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, or data falsification, Interações uses the Similarity Check system. However, if misconduct detection fails and the article is published, the author may face editorial sanctions such as retraction of plagiarized or previously published scientific articles.

The journal requires authors to provide authorship declarations and to disclose any relevant conflicts of interest. This includes the disclosure of financial ties, institutional connections, or any other relationship that may influence the impartiality of the work.

Conflicts of interest may arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that, whether apparent or not, may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts.

To better decide on a manuscript, it is necessary to know of any competing interests the authors may have. The aim is not to eliminate these interests—they are almost inevitable. Manuscripts will not be rejected solely because of the existence of a conflict of interest.

All manuscripts approved after peer review are subjected to similarity verification using the Similarity Check (iThenticate) software. Texts with a similarity index above 20% will be individually analyzed by the editor-in-chief, considering the context of textual overlap.

When the similarity index exceeds 30%, and no acceptable justification is provided — such as standardized methodology sections, direct quotations with sources, or ethical reuse of self-authored content — the case may be considered plagiarism or self-plagiarism. In such cases, the corresponding author will be contacted for clarification or adjustments, and the manuscript may be rejected due to the requirement for originality. The final decision on the editorial process rests with the editorial team, under the responsibility of the editor-in-chief, in accordance with the journal’s principles of ethics and scientific integrity.

In accordance with the Guide for the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools and Resources in Research Communication from the SciELO Network, the following recommendations apply:

i) The use of tools and resources that assist authors in the preparation of their manuscripts is recommended, provided that attribution norms are respected and ethics and scientific integrity are upheld.

ii) Authors have the right and freedom to use tools and resources that assist in the preparation, writing, reviewing, and translation of their articles, book chapters, or books. Many such tools and resources are provided by AI applications.

iii) Authors must mention the sources of materials used in the research and in the writing of the article, whether in the abstract, methods section, or equivalent.

According to the SciELO guide, “concealing the use and content of AI is an ethical failure that violates the principles of transparency and honesty in research.”

This policy guides the responsible use of AI in our publication, ensuring the integrity, transparency, and excellence of the research we endorse.

Authorship: AI tools or similar do not qualify as authors and cannot be included as co-authors.

Responsibility: the use of AI must be carefully supervised by the authors, who are responsible for errors, plagiarism, and other misconduct that may occur in their research as a result of AI use. Responsibility for the article’s content lies with the signatory authors.

Authenticity and originality: authors who use AI to generate or analyze content must ensure their work is original and contributes significantly to the field of study.

Declaration of AI use: all manuscripts that use AI — whether for generation, analysis, review, or any other capacity — must clearly indicate this in the materials and methods section. Authors must also explicitly state the extent of AI involvement.

Transparency: authors must be transparent about AI use in the manuscript writing process, including detailed information (name, version, model, source, parameters used) about how the technology was applied and its role in text development.

Limitations: if AI is used as a research tool, authors must discuss in the text its limitations and potential biases.

Authors must strictly follow ethical research standards, including obtaining informed consent from human participants, disclosing conflicts of interest, and respecting third-party copyright. Plagiarism and academic misconduct are unacceptable and may result in article rejection.

Site responsibility:

• The publication reserves the right to make normative, spelling, and grammatical changes to the originals to maintain standard language use, while respecting the authors’ style.

The Interações journal accepts manuscripts in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, with preference for English. Titles, abstracts, and keywords must be presented in all three languages. The manuscript must have a maximum of five authors, with at least one holding a doctoral degree (mandatory), while the others may be doctoral candidates, master’s students, or graduates. All authors must be clearly identified, including institutional affiliations and individual contributions. Authors must provide an authorship declaration describing each author’s contributions, as well as a conflict of interest declaration, revealing any personal, institutional, or financial relationships that may influence the interpretation or presentation of results. Inclusion of the ORCID registration code for all authors at the time of submission is mandatory. At least 70% of references used in manuscripts should correspond to publications from the last five years, ensuring the timeliness and scientific relevance of the work. All published articles will receive a DOI (Digital Object Identifier), ensuring identification and persistence in the digital environment, and the first author’s email address will be made available on the site for academic contact purposes.

Interações adopts the CRediT taxonomy to explicitly describe each author’s individual contributions transparently.

Authors must indicate the roles performed by each contributor, selecting one or more of the following CRediT categories:

Conceptualization – formulation of ideas, objectives, and study hypotheses.

Methodology – development and application of methods and techniques.

Software – programming, software development, and code implementation.

Validation – verification of reproducibility and accuracy of results.

Formal Analysis – application of statistical or mathematical techniques.

Investigation – conducting the research and data collection.

Resources – provision of materials, equipment, technical support, or funding.

Data Curation – management and preservation of research data.

Writing – Original Draft – preparation and initial drafting of the manuscript.

Writing – Review & Editing – critical review and text editing.

Visualization – preparation of graphs, diagrams, or other visual elements.

Supervision – academic supervision and overall project guidance.

Project Administration – research management and coordination.

Funding Acquisition – obtaining financial resources for the research.

The contributions must appear at the end of the manuscript, before the references, under the title “Author Contributions”, objectively and nominally, mentioning each author and their role.

The stated contributions will be published in the final article, ensuring transparency and proper recognition of everyone involved in the research process.

Interações publishes works that contribute to the dissemination of research on Local Development.

The journal publishes:

Articles: original studies, theoretical or practical approaches to Local Development, aligned with the Graduate Program in Local Development (PPGDL).

Translations of fundamental texts: classic texts not available in Portuguese, important to the field of Local Development, with due authorization.

Original interviews: content on relevant works related to Local Development.

Reviews: preceded by the reference of the document. Must use a single paragraph, Times New Roman, size 12, single spacing. Keywords must appear right after, separated by semicolons. Minimum 3 pages, maximum 5.

Experience reports (stricto sensu): unpublished master’s or doctoral research related to Local Development.

Submissions must be made exclusively through the online system. E-mail submissions are not accepted. Files must be in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx), Open Office, or RTF format. They must not contain any authorship identification (metadata must be removed).

Abstract: Write in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, thoroughly edited and revised. Present the article's theme, objectives, methodology, and results.

Keywords: contain three to five keywords, for the purpose of indexing the journal.

Introduction: present an overview of the text including theme, brief context of the subject, justification, objectives, methodology, and a presentation of the topics or sections. When necessary, include the state of the art. (Note: for works with specific methodologies within the text, it is not mandatory to specify them in the Introduction).

Sections or topics: the sections or topics of the text must be numbered, starting with 1 (in the introduction).

Footnotes: footnotes must be placed at the bottom of the page, numbered starting from 1, and should not be used for bibliographic references. Footnotes must be limited to what is strictly necessary and essential.

Quotations: use quotation marks for quotations of up to three lines within a paragraph. For longer quotations, highlight them in a separate paragraph, indented 4 cm, preceded and followed by a blank line, typed in Times New Roman, size 10, without quotation marks, and with single spacing. References, after a quotation or paraphrase, must be included in the body of the text, presented in parentheses, in the author-date system and with the cited page number. Example: (Bosi, 1988, p. 25-30).

Reviews: must not exceed 3,000 words. The complete bibliographic reference of the reviewed work is mandatory. The reviewed works must be related to the focus and scope of the journal.

NOTE: After publication and proofreading, no changes will be allowed, except in cases of typesetting errors.

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s portal following the formatting below:

• Paper size: A4 (210x297 mm)
• Margins: top and left 3 cm; bottom and right 2 cm
• Font: Times New Roman or Calibri
• Font size: 12
• Text alignment: justified
• Line spacing: 1.5
• Spacing before and after: 0 pt
• Left/right indent: 0 cm
• Special indent: first line (1.25 cm)
• Abstract: maximum of 200 words
• Title, abstract, and keywords: written in Portuguese, English, and Spanish
• Keywords: three to five words
• Page count: 15 to 20 pages
• Italic characters: reserved exclusively for publication titles and words in a language different from the main text. Underlining, bold, or all caps must not be used; however, text subtitles must appear in bold.
• Illustrations, photos, and images: must include captions and be inserted both in the text and separately, in TIFF, JPG, WMF, or EPS format.
• Tables: must be in editable format.
• References and citations: must follow the standards of the Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT – NBR 6023). They must include only works and documents cited in the body of the article. When citing more than three authors in-text, use et al.; the number of authors per paragraph and repeated mentions should be kept to a minimum.
• Reference page count: must not exceed 10% of the total number of pages in the manuscript.
• Limits: the limits established for the various types of work may only be exceeded in truly exceptional cases, upon recommendation by the Editorial Board and at the discretion of the Editorial Committee.

Accepted formats: JPG, WMF, TIFF, or EPS (submitted as supplementary files, not embedded in the body of the text).

Minimum resolution: 300 dpi.

Copyright: authors must hold the rights to all visual resources.

Captions and titles: must be clear, in an appropriate font, with consistent color and style, and must include versions in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, in accordance with the journal’s guidelines.

Labeling and sequence: each asset must be numbered sequentially according to its type (Table 1, Figure 1, Chart 1) and accompanied by an explanatory caption.

Reference in the manuscript: insert a marker in the text (“see Figure 1 supplementary file”) to indicate the corresponding file.

The journal adopts the ABNT standards in their most recent versions:

Citations: must follow NBR 10520/2023, ensuring clarity, standardization, and traceability of sources cited in the text.

References: must follow NBR 6023/2018 and NBR 10520/2023, ensuring uniformity and completeness in the listing of sources.

Reference models:

During the submission process, authors must attach, in addition to the main manuscript, any supplementary documents required to meet the journal’s ethical, legal, and technical standards. These files must be submitted separately in the journal’s system, in the requested format (Word or legible image), and properly identified.

Supplementary documents include, but are not limited to:

Open Science Compliance Form: when applicable, to ensure transparency and the sharing of data, codes, and research materials, in line with SciELO’s editorial best practices.

Authorship and Responsibility Statement: document confirming that all authors have sufficiently contributed to the work to take public responsibility for its content and that they approve the final submitted version.

This statement must include the identification of all authors registered in the system (first name, middle name, last name, institution, e-mail, and ORCID), as required by the journal.

Ethics Committee Approval Statement: mandatory for studies involving human beings or animals, indicating the protocol number and the institution responsible for approval.

Conflict of Interest Declaration: document in which authors state whether or not there are potential conflicts of interest related to the work.

Technical supplementary files: figures, tables, maps, diagrams, and other digital assets not included in the body of the text, submitted separately in high resolution (minimum 300 dpi) and in formats accepted by the journal (JPG, WMF, TIFF, or EPS).

Authors must clearly and thoroughly disclose all sources of financial support related to the research that originated the manuscript (when applicable). This statement must be included at the time of submission, in the appropriate field of the journal’s system, and must also appear at the end of the text, before the references section.

The statement must include:

Name of the funding institution: e.g., National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), Foundation for the Support of the Development of Education, Science and Technology of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (FUNDECT), among others.

Contract, project, or grant number (when applicable): provide the code or identification number given by the funding agency or institution.

Description of the funder’s role (when applicable): explain whether the funding agency or institution participated in the study design, data collection and analysis, manuscript writing, or the decision to submit the article for publication.

Statement of no funding: if there was no financial support, include the following sentence: “This research received no financial support from funding agencies, the public sector, the commercial sector, or nonprofit organizations.”

Examples:

• This work was funded by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), Brazil – Funding Code 001. The funder had no role in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation of results, or writing of the manuscript.
• The study was supported by the Foundation for the Support of the Development of Education, Science and Technology of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (FUNDECT), process no. 25/2023. The funding agency did not interfere in the methodological or editorial stages of the research.

This approach is reflected in its reputation as a reference journal, attracting renowned researchers and academics and strengthening the impact of its publications in the global scientific arena.

Research Lines of the Journal: Interações (Campo Grande) publishes only scientific articles and research papers that necessarily address significant themes related to Local Development, including:

• Culture, heritage, and social inclusion: submitted articles must explore the connection between Local Development, cultural identity, historical heritage, and social inclusion. This includes topics such as cultural preservation, cultural tourism, policies for valuing local heritage, and their influence on community development, with an emphasis on promoting social inclusion and reducing socioeconomic inequalities.
• Public policies for Local Development: the journal accepts works discussing public policies and government actions related to this area, including analyses of social inclusion policies, poverty alleviation programs, housing and infrastructure policies, tax incentives, sustainability (SDGs), and other relevant topics.
• Entrepreneurship and innovation in local contexts: the journal encourages the submission of articles examining the role of entrepreneurship and innovation in Local Development. This encompasses studies on promoting local entrepreneurship, the impact of startups and small businesses on the local economy, innovation strategies in specific sectors, and related topics.
• Community participation and involvement in Local Development: the journal accepts research exploring the importance of community participation in the Local Development process. This includes studies on mechanisms of citizen participation, strengthening civil society, participatory governance, inclusion of marginalized groups, and related themes.
• Cooperation and partnerships for Local Development: the journal values research addressing forms of cooperation and partnerships among different stakeholders to promote Local Development. This may include studies on public-private partnerships, collaboration between civil society organizations, international cooperation, collaborative networks, and other relevant aspects.

Interações focuses on publishing scientific articles and research papers on Local Development. Articles submitted that do not adhere to this orientation will not be approved for subsequent steps toward final publication.

Evaluation of Submitted Articles

The evaluation of research manuscripts is a primary function of Interações in the following dimensions: analysis of research according to the scientific method; adherence to ethical standards; and alignment with Open Science practices and the research’s thematic area.

The journal’s editorial policy defines the following criteria for evaluating texts: compliance with formatting requirements; originality; thematic relevance; clarity and precision in defining the research object; theoretical and methodological consistency of the content; analytical rigor; timeliness; quality of writing; and alignment with the editorial scope.

Submitted works go through four evaluation phases: Screening by the editors-in-chief, who examine the manuscript’s alignment with the journal’s editorial line and scope, as well as formal requirements and its potential for publication. Peer review by at least two reviewers, appointed by the editors, under a double-blind system, except for articles available in preprint servers or those whose authors opt for open peer review (Open Science Compliance Form), in which case a single-blind review is carried out. Similarity check of approved manuscripts in previous stages, using the Similarity Check system. If a high degree of similarity to previously published texts is detected, the article may be rejected, given the originality requirement, except for cases involving preprint articles.

Editorial decision: editors, after peer review, recommend acceptance, rejection, or revision. In case of revisions, the texts are returned to the reviewers for final evaluation.

The evaluation outcome is sent to the author and may result in: acceptance; request for mandatory corrections; resubmission for evaluation; or rejection.
During the evaluation process, for authors who opted for open review, Interações offers reviewers the option to communicate directly with the corresponding author, with or without revealing identities.

In the final version of the article, Interações publishes the name and ORCID of the editor responsible for the evaluation process.

Policies for Dossiers/Special Issues: Interações has specific policies for publishing thematic dossiers or special issues, seeking to promote in-depth and interdisciplinary approaches to relevant topics in the field of Local Development. These policies aim to ensure the quality, diversity, and timeliness of published dossiers. The guidelines applied to thematic dossiers are as follows:

• Highlighted themes: thematic dossiers/special issues cover emerging issues, current debates, and conceptual advances in the field of Local Development. Relevant and innovative themes with significant potential to advance knowledge in this area are selected. Proposals must align with the journal’s research lines and represent a valuable contribution to the field.
• Specialized coordination: each dossier/special issue is coordinated by recognized experts in the field. These coordinators have extensive experience and knowledge of the addressed topics, ensuring excellence and comprehensive discussions within the published dossier.
• Open call: Interações issues open calls for article submissions to thematic dossiers/special issues, inviting researchers and academics to contribute with their studies and reflections. Calls are disseminated through various academic and scientific channels, aiming to attract a wide range of contributions from national and international researchers.
• Rigorous evaluation: articles submitted to thematic dossiers/special issues undergo a rigorous review process, following the journal’s general peer review guidelines.

By following these policies, Interações strengthens its commitment to academic excellence, promoting the dissemination of relevant research and encouraging interdisciplinary scientific production.
