Brief Background

The journal is published by the Graduate Theology Department of the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy and Theology (PPGT-FAJE, Belo Horizonte). The printed version (ISSN 0102-4469) has been published regularly and uninterruptedly since 1969, existing, therefore, for 57 years. Since 2008, the journal has also been published in electronic form (ISSN 21768757), and all of its issues are fully available. “The didactic character of the fifty-year history of the Perspectiva Teológica can be divided into 3 phases. The first phase dates from its creation in 1969, when the College of Theology Cristo Rei, of São Leopoldo (RS), completed its twentieth anniversary as a college and joined the then newly-created University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos. The second phase began in 1982, when the College of Theology was installed in Belo Horizonte”. In that year, it received its new cover (2nd). The third phase gained new impetus in the 1990s, with the uninterrupted search for quality, listing in databases, bibliographies, directories, indexes, and with the improvement of technical issues (3rd cover). In 2015 It was indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). In 2016, the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) was implemented. In 2017, all the research content was made available on the website in Portuguese, English and Spanish and the journal received its 4th cover “which is an external expression of internal changes. These concern the firm decision of the editorial team and of the professors of the Department of Theology to consolidate the steps taken, observing strictly the demanding process for quality and adaptation of the journal in order to implement the Capes requirements of periodicals; to seek listing in the reference platforms of international scientific citations and, thus, become a renowned journal in the field” (SUREKI, 2019, p. 19). It was classified in the QUALIS A1 stratum and entered into the ARTS & HUMANITIES CITATION INDEX ( (AHCI), DIADORIM, DOAJ. collections. In 2018, it achieved success in its national and international indexes. It was indexed in the WEB OF SCIENCE - Arts & Humanities database, in the Open Academic Journals Index - OAJI.NET; in the Free Portal, in the OASISBR Portal, Brazilian Portal of Scientific Periodicals in open access, of the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology - IBICT). It was listed in the SUNCAT Collective Catalog, in the Global Resources Network online research catalog, and in Scopus, the largest citation database in the world. Also, in 2018, the articles started to adopt the ORCID (Connecting Research and Researchers). According to bibliometric and sociometric studies of scientific production from 1969 to 2019/1, the journal "is the first scientific journal linked to a Graduate Program in Theology of Catholic confession in Brazil, and the second oldest in the country". In 2022 and 2023, it was indexed in the Diretório Miguilim, Scilit Scientific Literature, the Scientific Articles Database from CrossRef and PubMed, and Science Open. In 2024, Perspectiva Teológica was indexed in the Litars List (Louvain Index of Theology and Religious Studies for Journals and Series). In 2025, the journal adopted the continuous publication format. |
Open Access
|
This journal follows the Open Access model, allowing unrestricted virtual access (including financial restrictions) to all scientific texts published by the journal. Open access is the condition in which the copyright holder of an academic work grants usage rights to third parties through an open license (Creative Commons Attribution, CC-BY), enabling immediate free access to the work and allowing any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link the full texts of the articles, track them for indexing, process them as data for software, or use them for any other lawful purpose. |
Open Science Compliance
|
In line with Open Science guidelines, Perspectiva Teológica supports the open access policy using the CC-BY access license. The journal adopts the code of good editorial practices and uses social and academic networks to disseminate its articles. Subject to the consent of the authors, some articles already approved and in the process of being edited for publication, which already have a DOI, may be deposited by the editors of Perspectiva Teológica on the SciELO Preprints server. Reviewers and authors will be informed of the possibility of publishing reviews, with or without identifying their names, as long as there is consensus among them. |

Perspectiva Teológica, (Theological Perspective), committed to maintaining scientific quality, the credibility of the national and international theological academic community, transparency, and ethical standards in the editorial process, adopts the guidelines of the National Research Council (CNPq) as set forth in the Report of the CNPq Research Integrity Commission , the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as established in the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines and the SciELO International Standards for Publishers. Focus and Scope
|
Mission Perspectiva Teológica, rated A1 in QUALIS (Theology and Sciences of Religion), is published on a four-monthly basis. Aims to disseminate the theological reflection (in systematic, biblical and pastoral areas) with proven, scientific quality, being open to ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue, as well as to other fields of scientific knowledge that will contribute to the service of faith and the commitment to justice. Thus, it serves as an instrument of permanent actualization of Theology and clarification of our Christian faith in view of postmodern world problems. Through thematic and diverse articles this publication offers to those who devote themselves to the study of Theology (an) aid for their reflection and theological debate. It also grants to its readers the possibility of aides which, over time, may solidify the reason of their faith and hope (1Pt 3.15). Articles” Scope Perspectiva Teológica publishes articles covering these areas: 1. Theology of Christian Praxis (Christian Spirituality, Cultural and Religious Pluralism; Current Ethical Trends). 2. Systematic Theology (Biblical Sources of Christian Tradition; Interpretation of the Christian Tradition on the Current Horizon). |

Peer Review Process
|
The process of evaluating articles sent to the Perpectiva Teológica is as follows: 1) Pre-analysis of the adequacy criteria and standards for publication in Perspectiva Teológica. Papers are rejected for the following reasons: a) the author (and, if applicable, the co-author) does not have a doctor’s degree, prerequisite of a QUALIS A1 journal (except for book reviews and bibliograsphical notes, which can be written by both doctoral students and persons of recognized merit); b) the standard format of a scientific paper: abstract, keywords, introduction, conclusion, references. 2) Preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Board. At this phase, plagiarism detection programs are used for article control (iThenticate Plagiarism Detection, AntiPlagiarist – ACNP; CopySpider) and the assessment of the relevance and methodological and scientific quality of the text. 3) Perspectiva Teológica adopts the process of double-blind peer review. The articles are sent without any identification of the author to two ad hoc reviewers of the thematic area. The LATTES platform is used to select the reviewers and the thematic areas. The reviewer’s opinion will take into consideration the theoretical-critical and methodological dimensions of the text, as well as the contribution of the production in terms of innovation and dissemination of knowledge. The evaluation should be concluded within 20 days. Conflicts between evaluative positions will be resolved by other reviewers and / or members of the Editorial Board. The final decision on any conflict and on the publication of the manuscript is reserved for the Editorial Commission (Director, Editor, Deputy Editor) that will take into account the entire evaluation process and the code of conduct for editorial standards. 4) Conclusion of the evaluation process: the article, once accepted for publication and approved by the author, is then prepared for printing. After corrections, the manuscript will be resent to the author for final verification. The entire process between the submission of the article and its final approval could prolong up to five full months. The final version of the article published in the journal includes the name of the editor responsible for the peer review process. In case authors withdraw from the evaluation process after their article has been accepted, with or without the due corrections, and if, after some time, they decide to resubmit their texts, these will be reassessed. |
Open Data

Perspectiva Teológica fully adheres to the guidelines on open data, as described in the Guide for Promoting Openness, Transparency and Reproducibility of Research Published in SciELO Journals. Accordingly, our publication supports “the sharing of data, code, methods, and other materials used in and resulting from research that generally underlie the texts of articles published in the Journal.” For data sharing, authors may use their institutional repositories or data repositories recommended by SciELO. When using research data, proper citation is required, as indicated in the Research Data Citation Guide. |

This journal does not charge article processing fees or submission fees. |
Ethics and Misconduct, Correction and Retraction Policy
|
Publication of Errata According to SciELO instructions, when errors are found in the article or other published document that do not invalidate it, the Editor will make an erratum informing the corrections and/or inclusions of parts of the document. The online version of the journal brings the correction date and the link to the printed erratum. The text must contain: the DOI number of the document that has an error, and other information at the discretion of the Editor, with the url link of the article with the error. Retraction When a problem has been identified in an article published in the journal, based on the SciELO model, "Guide to the registration and publication of retraction", it is necessary to proceed with the registration and publication of retraction. The text to be retracted must be presented by those responsible, with the justifications, containing the basic data (title, author, affiliation and abstract). It will not be “deleted from the journal where it was originally published”. However, the expression “Retracted Article” will be written in the summary. The PDF of the article will have watermark stripes with the expression “Retracted Article”. This process is monitored by the Editorial Team, the Editorial Committee and the validation of some members of the Editorial Board. |
Policy on Conflict of Interest
|
In the event of conflicts between evaluative positions (on the part of authors and reviewers), the article may be sent to other reviewers and/or members of the Editorial Board. The final decision regarding any conflicts and the publication of the manuscript rests with the Editorial Committee (Director, Editor, and Associate Editor), which will consider the entire peer review process and the code of conduct for editorial standards. Authors will sign a Declaration of No Conflict of Interest. |
Adoption of Similarity Software
|
Plagiarism: the tools adopted for textual similarity verification include iThenticate Plagiarism Detection Software, protected by international copyright and trademark laws, ACNP, and CopySpider. After submission to the journal’s website, the article undergoes an initial formal review. If it meets the journal’s guidelines, the anti-plagiarism verification process begins. Cases identified as possible similarity are then reviewed, since they often concern citations of works with which the author is engaging or biblical texts. |
Gender and Sex Issues
|
The editorial team of Perspectiva Teológica, along with the authors who publish in the journal, will always observe the guidelines on (Sex and Gender Equity in Research - SAGER), which comprise a set of standards guiding the reporting of sex and gender information in study design, data analysis, results, and interpretation. Additionally, Perspectiva Teológica already observes a gender equity policy in the composition of its editorial board. |

Perspectiva Teológica is rated A1 in the QUALIS Journals system in the fields (Theology and Religious Studies). publishes original articles, reviews, and bibliographic notes. Originality refers to: a) a new approach to a specific topic that is unknown to the reading public; b) the article not having been published in another journal. Authorship and co-authorship (if any) is reserved only for PhDs, with the exception of other types of texts, which may be written by PhD students and people of recognized merit. Texts may be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, and Italian. |

Registration on the journal's website and subsequent access must be done through login and password, accessing an existing account or registering a new account. If in doubt, follow the guidelines available in the TEXT SUBMISSION MANUAL, available at the link: https://www.faje.edu.br/periodicos/index.php/perspectiva/Manuais>. It is mandatory to fill in all the metadata fields of the submission related to information on: authorship, co-authorship (if any), contact, biography (major title, professional affiliation, country of origin and ORCID (Open Researcherand Contributor ID). It is the author's digital identifier. Registration is simple and immediate, just enter the address https://orcid.org/register and fill in the requested fields. |

Submissions must be in Microsoft Word format, using Times New Roman, 12 pt, single-spaced. Greek or Hebrew fonts may be used, provided they are transliterated in parentheses. We request that the file contain these fonts. |
Authors’ Contribution
|
In coauthored articles, each author must assume responsibility for the part of the work they developed. If the manuscript is approved, authors must indicate, at the end of the text and after the references, the contribution made by each one. Perspectiva Teológica suggests, preferably, the use of the CREDiT taxonomy structure. |
Article Submission Format
|
Guidelines for the presentation of texts Font: Times New Roman, size 12; single spacing; paragraph: 1.25 indent; margins: left 3cm, top 3cm, right 2cm, bottom 2cm. - Texts for the articles section (must be between 30,000 and 40,000 characters including spaces) - Texts for the Review section (must be between 7,500 and 10,000 characters including spaces) - Bibliographic Notes (approximately 2,500 characters including spaces) must be doctors, doctoral students, and professors/researchers with recognized merit. - Explanatory notes: these are separated from the text by a 5 cm line, with single spacing, font size 10, and no space between notes. Textual elements The text must include an Introduction (without numbering). Sections and subsections should follow a logical sequence using Arabic numerals: 1; 1.1; 1.2; 1.2.1; 1.2.2, etc. Conclusion (without numbering). Post-textual elements - Acronyms used in the text must be listed before references. Example: FT = Encyclical letter Fratelli tutti - Bibliographical references should be listed in alphabetical order, without any subdivision and following the norms of the ABNT (Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas). The works used by the author should appear in the body of the text, in 11point font and single spaced. |
Citations and References

- In-text citations and footnotes should follow the format (Surname, year, page). Example: (Aquino Júnior, 2019, p. 37) - Short direct quotations (up to three lines) must be included in the main text within double quotation marks. - Quotations longer than three lines should be presented in a separate paragraph, indented 2 cm, using Times New Roman, size 11, single-spaced, with one line of space before and after the quotation, followed by the reference (Lysaught; McCarthy, 2018, p. 17).
