RAUSP Management Journal (originally Revista de Administração), which dates back to March 1947, has the mission of disseminating conceptual, practical, and scientific research  that add value to the work of academics and practitioners in the field of Management. Published continuously by the Department of Business Administration at the School of Economics, Business, Accounting and Actuarial Sciences of the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP) since its reactivation in 1977, after an interruption in 1967, the journal publishes articles selected through a rigorous double-blind peer review process based on criteria of originality, quality, and creativity. It is currently rated '1' in the Academic Journal Guide (ABS List). Since 2018, RAUSP Management Journal has been published by Emerald Publishing.

RAUSP Management Journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater democratization of knowledge.

RAUSP Management Journal follows a rigorous double-blind peer review process. All articles undergo an initial assessment by the Editor. If considered suitable, they are forwarded to an Associate Editor, a specialist in the study’s field, who validates their relevance and contribution. If approved at this stage, the manuscripts are reviewed by at least two external referees, who provide reports on their quality and suitability for publication. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. In the final published version, the name of the Associate Editor responsible for the peer review process is included.

Supplementary Files

When tables, figures, appendices, and other additional content are complementary to the article but not essential for the reader’s understanding, authors may choose to host these supplementary files along with the article on Insight, Emerald’s content hosting platform, or in another reliable online repository. Extensive supplementary material may be subject to peer review; this is at the discretion of the journal editor and depends on the content of the material (for example, if including it would help the reviewer make a decision on the article during the peer review process).

RAUSP Management Journal is published under a Diamond Open Access model, in which all costs associated with publishing an article in Open Access in the journal are covered by the University of São Paulo. This journal does not charge article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees.

RAUSP Management Journal adheres to strict ethical and integrity standards. Research published in the journal must be original, not submitted to or under consideration by another publication, comply with guidelines on generative AI, have authors who meet authorship criteria, properly cite previous work, disclose conflicts of interest, contain no defamatory or illegal statements, have permission for third-party material and consent from individuals/organizations mentioned, and, where required, documented ethical approval. Failure to meet these conditions may result in corrections or retractions by Emerald Publishing, in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Conflicts of interest are situations that may compromise impartiality in the evaluation of a submission or in the presentation of a publication. They can be financial, professional, contractual, or personal, such as prior relationships, interests in the results, undisclosed financial support, interest in suppressing the research, or pending patents. Authors, reviewers, and editors must follow the Nolan principles and disclose any conflicts that could influence the process, and declare any situation that would cause embarrassment if it became public or could mislead the reader. In case of doubt, the editor should be consulted before submission, and any suspected undisclosed conflict in active or published work should be addressed according to Emerald Publishing’s ethics guidelines.

Authors submitting work to RAUSP Management Journal for consideration must declare any potential conflicts of interest that could interfere with the objectivity or integrity of a publication. The corresponding author is responsible for providing this declaration on behalf of all authors; it must be included in the submission and within the manuscript itself to highlight and specify, when relevant, whether any conflicting interests exist. Any financial support for the research from third parties must also be disclosed.

RAUSP Management Journal, in partnership with Emerald, adheres to strict policies to ensure academic integrity and prevent plagiarism in all its publications.
Plagiarism is considered to include:

• Literal copying of more than 10% of another work without proper citation, reference, or use of quotation marks;
• Inadequate paraphrasing of significant parts of another author’s work without proper attribution;
• Reuse of elements such as tables, figures, or paragraphs without permission and correct referencing;
• Reproduction or paraphrasing of the author’s own previous work without clear indication, except when used to support new conclusions.

Authors must declare that the submitted work is original, properly citing preliminary versions such as conference papers or presentations. Exceptions to originality are accepted only in specific cases, with authorization from the editor and copyright holder. All sources used, including websites and materials without an identified author, must be correctly referenced.

To detect plagiarism, RAUSP Management Journal uses iThenticate (Crossref Similarity Check) and investigates all allegations impartially. Third-party complaints are accepted only with legitimate identification; threatening or inappropriate behavior is prohibited.

Regarding similarity percentage, manuscripts with indices above 15% may be summarily rejected.
When a case of plagiarism is confirmed, actions may include:

• Returning the manuscript to the author for revisions;
• Rejection of the submission;
• Publication of a corrigendum or expression of concern;
• Retraction of the article;
• Notification to the author(s)’ institution, depending on the severity.

Any use of AI tools, including Large Language Models (LLMs), for the creation, development, or generation of publications in RAUSP Management Journal and Emerald must be clearly and transparently indicated by the author(s) in the Methods and Acknowledgments sections (or another appropriate section) of the article, chapter, or case study. The author(s) must describe the content created or modified, and properly cite the name and version of the AI tool used; any additional works utilized by the AI tool must also be appropriately cited and referenced. Standard tools used to improve spelling and grammar are not included in the scope of this guidance.

Editors and Emerald reserve the right to determine whether the use of an AI tool is acceptable in a submitted article, chapter, or case study. Emerald also reserves the right to reject submissions and take appropriate post-publication actions for published material that presents inappropriate or undisclosed use of generative AI.

According to COPE’s position statement on AI tools, Large Language Models cannot be credited as authors, as they are incapable of designing a research project without human direction and cannot be held accountable for the integrity, originality, and validity of the published work.

Key Principles for the Use of Generative AI

• Writing any part of a submission using a generative AI/LLM tool is not permitted, including the generation of the abstract or literature review, as, according to Emerald’s authorship criteria, the author(s) must be responsible for the work and accountable for its accuracy, integrity, and validity.
• Generating or presenting results using a generative AI/LLM tool is not permitted, as, according to Emerald’s authorship criteria, the author(s) must be responsible for creating and interpreting their work and accountable for its accuracy, integrity, and validity.
• Presenting statistics in the text using a generative AI/LLM tool is not permitted due to concerns regarding the authenticity, integrity, and validity of the produced data, although using such a tool to assist in analyzing the work is allowed.
• Text revision of a submission using a generative AI/LLM tool to improve language and readability is permitted, as this mirrors standard tools already used to improve spelling and grammar, and relies on existing material created by the author rather than generating entirely new content, while the author(s) remain responsible for the original work. Authors should be aware of potential bias, fabrication, inaccurate attribution, and plagiarism when using such tools, and therefore must verify the work before submission.
• Submission and publication of images created by AI tools or large-scale generative models are not permitted.
• In line with standard academic practice, Emerald does allow the use of generative AI examples for illustrative purposes as part of scholarly critique and discussion, except for images created by AI tools or large-scale generative models; these examples must be clearly indicated in the text and fully cited and referenced according to formatting requirements.

AI and Peer Review

Articles, case studies, and chapters submitted to Emerald for consideration and review must be treated as confidential, which means that sharing this material with anyone or uploading it to a generative AI or LLM tool for evaluation would violate the author’s confidentiality, as well as any data ownership and/or privacy rights.

The same applies to the peer review report itself if uploaded to a generative AI/LLM for text editing or writing purposes, as it may contain confidential or identifiable information related to the submission or the author(s). Additional concerns exist regarding the use of generative AI tools for peer review due to biases in the models’ datasets and the reliability of their ability to evaluate content, with the risk of producing false, flawed, or inaccurate results

The editorial team of RAUSP Management Journal, as well as authors publishing in the journal, must always adhere to the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines. The SAGER guidelines provide  recommendations for reporting sex and gender information across study design, data analysis, and the results and interpretation of findings. Additionally, RAUSP Management Journal follows a gender equity policy in the composition of its editorial board.

Authors must verify, with the responsible institution, the need for ethical approval and include this information in the submission when the research involves human participants. Authors have the ethical responsibility to conduct their work in accordance with national and international research ethics guidelines, the ethical principles of their field of study, and the regulations of competent authorities, as well as to present their methods transparently to allow fair and proper evaluation by all involved in the publication process. Informed consent is essential, requiring that all participants (or their legal representatives) be informed about the purpose of the research, assurance of anonymity, how their data will be stored and used, and any potential risks of participation. Therefore, the submission must confirm that informed consent was obtained and detail how this process was conducted. This requirement applies to all research involving human participants, not limited to medical studies, and it is equally important to observe and comply with any legal or institutional requirements regarding data protection.

Articles submitted to RAUSP Management Journal must not have been previously published in their current or substantially similar form, nor be under consideration for publication in another journal.

RAUSP Management Journal is a continuous publication of the Department of Administration at the Faculty of Economics, Administration, Accounting, and Actuarial Science of the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP) and publishes articles from Brazilian and international authors, selected through double-blind review based on originality, quality, and creativity.

Objectives: To disseminate conceptual, practical, and scientific research that adds value to the work of academics and business administrators, a mission the journal has fulfilled since 1947.

Accepted Document Types

Authors must categorize their articles as part of the ScholarOne submission process. The category that best describes your article should be selected from the list below.

• Research Article: This category includes articles reporting any type of research conducted by the author(s). Research may involve model or framework development or testing, action research, data testing, market research or surveys, empirical, scientific, or clinical research.
• Pensata: Any article whose content relies on the author’s opinion and interpretation should be included in this category. These articles are published by invitation.

According to our editorial line, we prioritize theory-empirical articles over purely theoretical work. Purely theoretical articles are published only by invitation and under special circumstances.

Preprints:

Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the following guidelines:

Format

• Article files must be provided in Microsoft Word format.
• LaTex files may be used if accompanied by a PDF document.
• PDF as the only file type is not accepted; a PDF must be accompanied by the source file.
• Acceptable figure file types are listed below.

Cover Letter

• It is a mandatory requirement of this journal that all submissions are accompanied by a cover letter.
• The letter must clearly outline the scope of your work, highlighting areas of impact and relevance to the journal’s readership.

Article Length

• Articles must be a maximum of 7,000 words, including references and appendices.
• Consider 280 words for each figure or table.
  (For example, if an article has 6,000 words and two tables, the total sum will be: 6,000 + 280 + 280 = 6,560 words)

Article Title

• Must be a maximum of eight words.

Author Details

• The maximum number of authors allowed per submission is 6.
• All contributing author names must be added to the ScholarOne submission and arranged in the correct order for publication.
• Correct email addresses must be provided for each author in their separate author accounts.
• The full name of each author must appear exactly as it should appear in publication, including or excluding any middle names or initials as appropriate.
• The affiliation of each contributing author must be correct and reflect where the research was conducted.
• All authors must confirm their contribution to the research as part of the “Author Contribution – CRediT Taxonomy” stage of the submission process.

• All authors (corresponding and co-authors) must have a valid ORCiD to publish in this journal.

Biographies and Acknowledgements

• Authors wishing to include these items should save them together in a single MS Word file for submission.
• Each professional biography must be a maximum of 100 words.

Structured Abstract

• Must be provided both in the ScholarOne system and in the Word document, following these subheadings:
  • Objective (mandatory)
  • Design/methodology/approach (mandatory)
  • Findings (mandatory)
  • Research implications (mandatory)
  • Practical implications (mandatory)
  • Social implications (mandatory)
  • Originality/value (mandatory)
• Maximum 250 words, including keywords and article classification.
• Avoid personal pronouns (e.g., “this article investigates…” is correct; “I investigate…” is incorrect).

Keywords

• Maximum of 12 keywords.
• Must reflect the main topics of the article.
• The Emerald editorial team may modify keywords to ensure consistency.

Article Classification

• Research Paper: Covers any type of research conducted by the authors, including models, action research, empirical or scientific research.
• Point of View: Articles based on opinion and interpretation, published by invitation.
• RAUSP prioritizes theory-empirical articles; purely theoretical articles are published only by invitation and under special circumstances.

DOI Registration

• All approved articles will have a DOI registered by Emerald.
• After publication, the DOI will be included in the article, ensuring a unique and permanent digital identifier.

• If the article involves human participants, authors must indicate whether the research received ethical approval and include this information in the submission.

Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)

• Emerald is a member of COPE and follows its ethical standards and flowcharts in cases of research and publication misconduct, ensuring high ethical standards across all journals.

• After acceptance, authors sign the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License (CC BY 4.0):
  • Copyright remains with the authors.
  • Emerald is granted a license to publish the article and is identified as the publisher.

Digital Assets

Figures

• All figures (charts, diagrams, drawings, screenshots, photographic images) must be submitted electronically, in high quality, and numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals.
• Charts may be in color to facilitate online viewing.
• Figures created in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or Illustrator should be provided in their native formats.
• Figures from other software may be copied into a Word document or converted to PDF.
• Accepted formats: .pdf, .ai, .eps, .tif, .jpeg, or .bmp, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and a minimum width of 10 cm.
• Screenshots can be taken using “Alt + Print Screen” or “Ctrl + Print Screen” and pasted into Word.
• Photographic images should be captured at the highest possible resolution and saved as .tif or .jpeg.

Tables

• Must be typed and included in a separate file, with position clearly indicated in the text.
• Superscripts or asterisks must have explanations as footnotes within the table itself.

Supplementary Files

• Additional content (tables, figures, appendices) can be hosted on Emerald Insight or on reliable online repositories (Datacite, re3data).
• Must be submitted as separate files, clearly identified as supplementary.
• Links to files in alternative repositories must be provided and ensure free access.
• Supplementary materials will not be edited by Emerald; review and formatting before submission are recommended.
• Accepted file types on Insight: .pdf, .doc/.docx, .xls/.xlsx, .pptx, .png/.jpeg/.gif, .txt, .ps, .rtf.

Notes/Endnotes

• Should only be used if absolutely necessary.
