Os métodos de tratamento e as rotinas em tumores intra-oculares

Resumo

Há 20 anos o diagnóstico de um tumor intra-ocular era, praticamente, sinônimo de enucleação. Além desse procedimento, o único recurso disponível era a radioterapia externa que, quando utilizada, determinava o enoftalmo e acentuadas deformidades faciais, principalmente em crianças. Esses métodos ainda têm indicações, porém, novas técnicas tem mostrado eficiência na regressão ou pelo menos no controle da atividade tumoral, com vantagens estéticas e funcionais, muitas vezes preservando o olho sem prejuízo na evolução sistêmica da doença em termos de sobrevida. Nosso objetivo neste artigo é sintetizar o que cada método pode nos trazer de benefício e como conduzir o tratamento dos tumores intra-oculares mais freqüentes.
