The use of hydroxyapatite as an integrated orbital implant

RESUMO

O emprego de hidroxiapatita como implante ocular é um procedimento relativamente novo. Este trabalho demonstra a experiência cirúrgica e os resultados clínicos em nove pacientes após enucleação e evisceração. Os resultados até o momento são bastante encorajadores. Nenhum paciente apresentou infecção ou extrusão do implante e todos apresentam excelente motilidade e aspecto estético.

SUMMARY

The use of hydroxyapatite as an ocular implant is a new procedure. This paper demonstrates the surgical experience and clinical results in nine patients after enucleation and evisceration. The results are great. None of them presented infection or extrusion of their implantes and all of them presented great motility and aesthetical appearance.
