STRATEGY OF INFECTION OF PROTOZOOPHAGA OBESA (DIESING, 1851) TRAVASSOS, 1923TRAVASSOS, L. Informações sobre a fauna helmintológica de Mato Grosso. Oxyuroidea Oxyuridae. Folha Médica, v.4, n.5, p.35-37, 1923. (OXYUROIDEA, OXYURIDAE)

ABSTRACT

The oxyurid Protozoophaga obesa presented high prevalence and intensity of infection in 27 dissections of digestive tracts of capybaras, Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris, raised in semi-intensive regime in Santo Antônio da Patrulha, RS, Brazil. This helmint was found in 94.44% of animals examined with mean intensity of infection of 709 especimens. On the floor of some pickets where the capybaras were maintained, on the Rincão da Palmeira farm, were found strings of P. Obesa females with thousands of agglutinated eggs. The meaning of those "strings" are discussed in the present work. This information helps to understand the success of this helmint in infecting the host even when there latter has been treated with anti-helminthic.
