TCC in public administration: Professionalization and innovation

ABSTRACT

This article debates the role and adoption of different formats of undergraduate dissertations and also reflects on how student assessment induces the use of these dissertations to develop public management technologies. At first, the study discusses the concept and formats of undergraduate dissertations and then presents a view of different formats adopted by public administration technological undergraduate programs in Brazil. Few programs disclosed whether they require undergraduate dissertations. Also, few programs accept students to present undergraduate dissertations in formats different from the standard. The findings support advocating the adoption of undergraduate dissertations to assess students to induce the development of public management technologies. In addition, undergraduate programs should reflect on evaluation criteria that encourage or discourage students from developing undergraduate dissertations.
