ANAEROBIC DIGESTION: ONE ALTERNATIVE FOR MILK PLANTS

SUMMARY The objective of this research was to study the feasibility of anaerobic biodigestors on the reduction of chemical and biological demand of oxigen of dairy plants residues and as a methane producers as energy resource. Basicaly there are three stages on the anaerobic fermentation due the presence of several microrganisms that interact during substrat degradation. Anaerobic digestion is sensitive to environmental variations that results in desiquilibrium on bacterial populations thus affecting the process rate. Nevertheless it is an alternative for treating organic liquid industrial residues from milk plants.
