PROCEDURES, TRANSLATIONS AND EDITIONS: WHY DISCUSS THE SCHEMATIC STRUCTURE AND THE TERM “JOGO” IN THE TEXT THE WORK OF ART IN THE AGE OF TECHNICAL REPRODUCIBILITY IN THE 21ST CENTURY, 80 YEARS AFTER THE DEATH OF WALTER BENJAMIN?

Abstract

the present research arose with a somewhat different and unusual method of scientific investigation. It came up as a doubt and not as a goal. Why does the word jogo occur often in the first publication of the text The Work of Art in the Age of Technical Reproducibility, in 1936? Thus, this article aims to address this question about the frequency of the term, starting with a discussion about the complexity and importance that this term has both in Walter Benjamin’s Philosophy, and in the translation procedures the text underwent. To validate this research, a word count was carried via the corpus-based tool SKETCH ENGINE - SkE. Following this verification, it was possible to prove which considerations are important to possibly answer the questioning about the repetition of the word “jogo”. Thus, with the perspective of reviewing the schematic structure of this classic text by Benjamin, we open this key of analysis of his present essay.
