ABSTRACT

This study describes the work of the Catholic movement Family Rosary Crusade and Father Patrick Peyton in Brazil from a transnational perspective, highlighting how the United States used religion to combat communism in Latin America during the Cold War. By analyzing newspapers and the internal documents produced by the American government and the religious organization, this study investigates the Crusade activities in Brazil, what alliances it established with sectors of its society, and how they contributed to the 1964 Civil-Military Coup.
