Our dream coming true

Marilda Emmanuel Novaes Lipp

Editor-in-Chief

Arriving at the end of one more year with all the numbers of a scientific journal, published on time with highly-relevant content and contributions originating from a variety of geographic regions in Brazil, as well as with international contributions, is the dream of every Editor-in-Chief. It is with this feeling of contentment that we have come to the end of 2011 and hereby present the last number of the year.

Estudos de Psicologia has completed 28 years of existence, without significant delay and no interruption. In 2011, 116 articles were accepted for evaluation in the editorial process. Among these, 62 were approved, providing a 53% approval rating. Even considering that not every study received is accepted for insertion into the evaluation process, this addresses a high rate of approval, which indicates the excellence in the scientific level of studies that have been received and accepted for evaluation.

The magazine has counted on an interesting geographic distribution of authorship and co-authorship, with five international articles, totaling 10 foreign authors originating from the USA, Germany, Spain, and Portugal. We have had the great satisfaction of publishing five research studies from universities in the North of Brazil, 12 from the Northeast, 10 from the Mid-West, in addition to 31 from the Southern Region and 37 from the Southeast.

Having classification in the Qualis A-2 System, with a quarterly edition, Estudos de Psicologia is a journal from the Post-Graduation Psychology Program at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas (PUC-Campinas) in Campinas. Founded in 1983, it incentivizes contribution from the national and international scientific community with the objective of promoting and disclosing scientific and technical knowledge in the area of Psychology as well as discussing the significance of practices in the professional and research fields by means of publishing original articles that represent research reports. Estudos de Psicologia also publishes theoretical studies, critical reviews on literature and communications relevant to Psychology as a Science and a profession. Estudos de Psicologia prints out 1 thousand copies/volumes and is also published on-line with free access.

Estudos de Psicologia maintains an editorial structure that has a national and international span, formed by: 1 editor-in-chief, 2 associate editors, 1 financial editor, 1 managing editor, 29 councilors, of which 16 are from Brazil and 13 are from Europe and the United States, and 816 scientific ad hoc reviewers, which guarantees a broad spectrum of interests in the area of Psychology. It is a reason of pride for us that the editorial board at Estudos de Psicologia comprises 13 renowned foreign scientists from a variety of countries and others from Brazilian universities in five different States. The editorial body is not endogenous. The average time between submission and publication is 10 months.

The success of Estudos de Psicologia is due to several important factors, such as, the choice of authors who publish high-quality studies in the journal, and our reviewers, all with exceptional curriculums, who are extremely critical in the blind evaluations they perform. Also of great importance is the financial assistance from Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, which has significantly contributed towards being able to maintain timely publication.

It is important to mention the PUC-Campinas performance in scientifically promoting the journal under the responsibility of the Post-Graduation Psychology at PUC-Campinas and under the technical care of the efficient Editing Center that manages the process with great diligence.

The work of editing a scientific journal reveals that the success of a journal depends on the collaboration and the efforts of numerous individuals, without which it would be impossible to have a regular, quality publication. Therefore, we are grateful to all the aforementioned individuals and institutions, for the earnest esteem and great contribution they have made throughout 2011 towards the success of Estudos de Psicologia.
