Cost of Different Types of Road Transport in the Timber Sector of Itapeva

ABSTRACT

Road transport is still considered the main means for the removal of timber in Brazil, from cutting to processing, despite of its high cost. Thus, road transport is also responsible for the increase in the processing costs of by-products. Nowadays, it is also possible to observe that this production sector has to bear the strong influence of increased costs due to several factors. In this context, the purpose of this research was to measure the economic viability of truck compositions to be used in the removal and transport of logs, especially in the region of Itapeva, State of Sao Paulo, which holds relevant characteristics in the production of wood from reforestation and hosts several wood processing companies. Through studies and analyses, this research attempts to describe and demonstrate three truck compositions that could meet the needs of timber transport, aiming to obtain higher yields and lower costs for the transport of logs in the region.
