EDITOR'S LETTER
Dearest,
I could not start this letter with other information but our new rank at the Qualis system: we are now a B1 journal, i.e., we are side-by-side with the top journals published in Brazil in the field of agricultural sciences! We share this achievement with the whole Horticultura Brasileira family.
In light of this new rank, in addition to be entering already our second year indexed by the Web of Science, we are receiving a large volume of manuscripts, even from abroad. Therefore, we needed to implement a couple of changes, to continue responding well to all.
Our first step was to increase the number of editors. So, we welcome our new scientific editors, Marinice Oliveira Cardoso, Rosana Rodrigues, Itamar Rosa Teixeira, Juliano Tadeu Vilela de Resende and Wagner Ferreira da Mota; as well as our new Associate Editor, Ronessa Bartolomeu de Souza. Thank you all for accepting the invitation and let´s set to work...
We made changes also in the reviewing process. We introduced two new requests for a manuscript to be eligible for peer reviewing. Henceforth, authors should point in the cover letter:
1. The relevance of the work (importance and distinctiveness in relation to existing papers) in no more than ten lines;
2. At least two persons, from institutions other than those authors are affiliated to, who can act as impartial peer reviewers.
We believe these changes will allow us to keep the peer reviewing process at an adequate pace.
I would like to draw you attention also to our cover. In 2010, we celebrate the year of biodiversity. Therefore, this cover is dedicated to one of our main natural heritages: tropical ornamental plants.
Finally, here we say goodbye to our Scientific Editor Ricardo Alfredo Kluge, who after many years of dedication to Horticultura Brasileira, leaves, at his request, the Editorship. Dear, Horticultura Brasileira is enormously grateful for the excellent work you have done.
