Quality of life in organic family farmers in rural Paraíba

It is known that the agricultural production standard of a country can determine significant changes in social and environmental health, reflecting in the life quality of farmers. The goal was to describe the work processes in organic family farming (AOF) and its relationship with the worker's life quality. Twentynine farmers, of an average 50 years old, formed the population researched and the average number of family members was from 5 to 8 per household. The average time working with agriculture is 39 years, and in organic family farming, 16 years. Regarding monthly income, it was found that most of the workers in the research makes much less than the average for the job. They all had power and water supply. From a total of 8 properties, 5 did not have waste collection, which caused it to be burned. A few symptoms were mentioned, such as cramps and leg pain. In respect to life quality, the psychological aspect had positive impact in life quality, with an average and deviation (17.83±12.78), and the environmental aspect had a negative impact for the group's life quality (9.00±6.82). It was found that the workers have a positive perception of their life quality, and collective work is significantly present in the course of action. The farmers have defined issues, with problems due to low income from reduced sales of the produce.
