(De)coloniality in the trajectory of a black German teacher: structuring and analyzing the biography of Laís Manhães Naka

Abstract

This paper reports the experience of constructing and analyzing the trajectory of a black teacher - Laís Manhães Naka, based on the understanding of research (with) teaching narratives as a decolonial study-performance modality in German language teaching. Therefore, the main objective was to produce, and then reflect on, the biography of an education worker with a personal and professional journey marked by the German language (and its teaching), but also by the ills of coloniality. In addition, we defined a second objective: to present and discuss other ways of thinking about teaching German that are to a lesser degree panoramic, universalist and generalizing, as has been pointed out in national and international decolonial studies. To achieve this objective, instruments were developed that articulated bibliographical, documentary and, mainly, exploratory research, inserting interpretative and analytical elements from the area of narrative research and placing it in dialogue with research that discusses decoloniality. The main results consisted of the (complex) reconstruction of the trajectory of a previously unknown German teacher in the area of German Studies, and the inclusion of research (with) narratives that open up paths for the articulation of different themes and teaching possibilities, which, in turn, could represent an important strategy for deepening decolonial approaches and working modes.
