Resumen en Inglés: ABSTRACT This article analyzes the Church’s theological thought in the face of transformations in the world of work, with an emphasis on the implications of technology, throughout the last century and a quarter, based on the Social Doctrine of the Church (SDC). To this end, it examines papal social encyclicals, considering that they cover this time period and are a set of documents endorsed by ecclesial institutions. The research adopts a qualitative approach, descriptive and explanatory in nature, combining bibliographic and documentary analysis. As a theoretical and methodological framework, it uses Marxist historical materialism, due to its capacity to elucidate the tensions between capital and labor and to foster critical dialogue with the SDC. The results indicate that theological thought is not monolithic, transforming itself over time and progressively moving away from a supposed neutrality to adopt a more critical perspective on the role of technologies and their insertion in society. |

Resumen en Inglés: Abstract The article traces the evolution of the relationship between the Catholic Church and technological revolutions, beginning with Leo XIII’s encyclical Rerum novarum and extending to the most recent magisterium, culminating in the pontificate of Leo XIV. Through an analysis of the main documents of the Social Doctrine of the Church, the article shows how the Church’s magisterium has interpreted the changes brought about by industrialization, technological society, and, more recently, the digital revolution. This reflection highlights a consistent thread: the recognition of technology’s positive value as an expression of human ingenuity and participation in God’s creative work, combined with critical vigilance toward the risks of dehumanization, such as technocracy and the reduction of the person to a mere cog in the productive machine. In this context, categories such as integral human development and integral ecology emerge as criteria for ethically orienting technological progress in the service of human dignity and the common good. |

Resumen en Inglés: ABSTRACT This article presents an analysis of Leo XIV’s thought in relation to the technological revolution experienced today throughout the world. The analysis begins with a lexical analysis and identification of semantic cores in his pronouncements, delves into the fundamental aspects that emerge in his magisterium, and seeks to understand how his thought approaches contemporary academic thought. This study demonstrates the seriousness with which the Church reflects on emerging issues, always seeking the integrality and care of the person in the face of the different interests that permeate society and its innovations. This critical and well-founded reflection allows the Gospel to adapt to different realities without losing its essentiality and significance. |

Resumen en Inglés: ABSTRACT This article provides a theological reflection on artificial intelligence and algorithms, structured around the hermeneutical axis “from the Logos to the code”. It argues that the christian Logos, as the personal self-communication of God in Jesus Christ, cannot be diminished to mere manipulable data nor comparable with purely technical-functional mediations. In a cultural context that tends to equate truth with calculation and efficiency, the study elucidates the distinction between revelation and algorithm and maintains that code must remain subject to human discernment. From an anthropological perspective, the imago Dei is reexamined to analyze how AI impacts human subjectivity, creativity, and moral responsibility, warning against a functionalist reductionism. Finally, the article proposes an integrative approach that connects Christology, anthropology, and the ethics of the common good, orienting a critical appropriation of technological innovation toward the service of human dignity and the Church’s mission in the digital world. |

Resumen en Inglés: ABSTRACT This article investigates the theological and ethical status of artificial intelligence (AI) based on the challenge posed by Pope Leo XIV, assuming that the central issue of AI is anthropological, not merely technological. Methodologically, it is structured in four parts: it accepts Leo XIV’s critique of the risk that hyperconnectivity and AI might prevent encounter with the other; it defines a concept of AI based on its history, contemporary theorists, and recent Catholic Magisterium; it argues, in light of the theology of creation, that AI does not rival human beings but reflects the continuity of the creative work; finally, based on the understanding of AI as a tool rather than a subject, it lists six challenges for Christian ethics |

This article proposes an ethical-theological reading of 1 Corinthians 13, aiming to demonstrate that Pauline agape functions as a theological matrix underlying the Church’s response to the great modern revolutions, from the first industrial revolution addressed by Leo XIII in Rerum novarum (1891) to the contemporary challenges posed by artificial intelligence under Leo XIV. In contrast to dominant rationalities that privilege abstract knowledge, efficiency, and self-sufficiency, Paul´s encomium on agape introduces a relational ethical logic centered on care for the vulnerable. From a hermeneutical-critical perspective situated within Latin American moral theology, the study articulates this reading with the ethics of care and the magisterial trajectory of Catholic Social Teaching, showing how agape as care for the vulnerable operates as a theological criterion of continuity in the ecclesial response to the revolutions from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century. |

Resumen en Inglés: Abstract The article relates moral conscience and digital culture, highlighting ethical-theological challenges in the pontificate of Leo XIV. It proceeds from his inspiration in Leo XIII to analyze papal positions in response to the moral challenges of the four industrial revolutions. It argues that the current revolution, marked by pervasiveness in both social and individual spheres, weakens moral agency by shaping affections, relationships, and formative processes. The main hypothesis holds that theological ethics must recover the centrality of conscience (GS, n. 16) to ground the defense of human dignity in the face of strong AI influences. Pope Francis’s integral approach to current challenges, by addressing institutional, collective, and individual consciences in the economic and educational spheres, constitutes a valuable legacy for the present. It concludes that Leo XIV does not inaugurate a new agenda in Catholic Social Teaching but dynamically retrieves the Depositum fidei to promote human dignity. |

Resumen en Inglés: ABSTRACT In four sections (peace and mercy; peace, dialogue, and justice; peace and listening; peace, Christ, and the poor) and a conclusion, the author presents his interpretation of how other issues crucial to human coexistence are integrated, in relation to the central theme of peace, at this challenging time marked by violence and exclusion. These themes are intertwined, offering a new understanding of the perspective on peace in relation to various contextual challenges. The text links the historical context of Pope Leo’s teachings with the present day, offering pressing and urgent perspectives. The need for a prophetic denunciation of the excessive power of the powerful against the most vulnerable finds meaning in God’s choice, in Christ, of a path of service and simplicity. In this way, the author proposes a theological framework that enables an understanding of the social and socio-environmental teaching that Pope Leo offers through his call for peace. |

MAIN ARTICLES From Rerum Novarum to Magnifica Humanitas: Artificial Intelligence, Integral Human Development and the Preservation of the Human Person in the Early Magisterium of Leo XIV Ayuso, María José Ibáñez López, Susana Miró Resumen en Portugués: RESUMO Desde a publicação de Rerum Novarum, a Igreja tem interpretado as grandes transformações da modernidade à luz da dignidade humana e do bem comum. Resumen en Inglés: ABSTRACT Since the publication of Rerum Novarum, the Church has interpreted the major transformations of modernity in light of human dignity and the common good. In the context of the sixtieth anniversary of Populorum Progressio, this article offers a pedagogical-anthropological reading of selected texts from the early magisterium of Leo XIV on artificial intelligence, interpreted as an emerging and still developing magisterial framework. In light of the subsequent publication of Magnifica Humanitas, the study does not seek to present a closed or definitive account of Leo XIV’s thought, but rather to identify the initial anthropological and educational coordinates through which his pontificate addresses the challenge of preserving the human person in the age of artificial intelligence. Using a hermeneutical-interpretative approach, it analyses a corpus of addresses and messages devoted to education, youth, technological ethics, and the mission of the university. The study identifies emerging anthropological and pedagogical emphases through which Leo XIV approaches artificial intelligence not only as a technical tool, but also as a cultural environment that reconfigures identity, attention, and relationality. It argues that the Church’s response to the digital revolution requires a solid anthropology centred on human dignity, discernment, character formation, and the irreplaceable role of the educator. |

Resumen en Inglés: ABSTRACT This article proposes an understanding of the homily as a paschal language of peace in the face of the capture of religious speech by discourses of war, fear, and hostility. In light of the initial magisterium of Leo XIV, especially his formulation of Christ’s peace as “unarmed” and “disarming,” the article argues that peace is not a peripheral theme of Christian preaching, but a constitutive dimension of the paschal kerygma. The study adopts a liturgical-theological and homiletic perspective, bringing together the Homiletic Directory, the conciliar renewal of the liturgy, contemporary reflection on preaching and the theology of moral conscience. First, it analyzes the crisis of religious language when it is distorted into a language of enmity and legitimation of violence. It then grounds the homily as an integral part of the liturgy and as an actualization of the Word within the horizon of the paschal mystery. Finally, it shows that the homily forms Christian conscience to discern hostile languages, leads to paschal practices of justice, reconciliation, and care for the wounded. The article concludes that the homily must be unarmed because it is born from Christ, and disarming because it forms disciples capable of witnessing to the reconciliation inaugurated by Easter. |

Resumen en Inglés: ABSTRACT Udjahorresnet was an important Egyptian priest and scribe from the city of Sais in the Nile Delta. After the conquest of Egypt by the Persians, Udjahorresnet was taken to Persia to serve King Darius I. However, due to religious conflicts that arose in the Nile Delta, Udjahorresnet was sent back to his city by the king, with the mission of restoring order and peace. The purpose of this essay is to compare Udjahorresnet’s mission with that of the Judahite priest and scribe Ezra. It is suspected that, like the Egyptian priest, Ezra was also sent by the Persian king to resolve the conflict occurring among priestly groups in Jerusalem, which was on the verge of spreading to other Yahwist communities. The methodology will be comparative, between the writings on the Naophoros statue’s attire and the exegetical analysis of biblical texts from the books of Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi and Ezra. |
