ABSTRACT
This article aims to relate and analyze the development of the educational sciences in Portugal and Brazil. To do so, it examines the historical trajectory of these sciences in the Lusitanian country, which offers the undergraduate course in educational sciences. Since this course is not offered in Brazil, where pedagogy is offered instead, the study is more directed to the analysis of the constitution of the epistemological field of these sciences in its interface with the research developed in the area of education. Thus, after examining the development of this research in the two countries, it highlights some approximations and challenges, such as the fact that their scientific production occurs mainly in postgraduate courses and underlines the need for inter-institutional initiatives that aggregate and synthesize the research studies produced in the area.
