EDITORIAL

The present edition represents an important landmark for Saúde e Sociedade (Health and Society), as it starts to be published in three volumes per year. This growth reflects both a larger demand from authors and the recognition of the importance of the themes discussed in the magazine for public health. This is certainly a quantitative and a qualitative growth indicator that, we believe, will set a definite place for our publication in the editorial field of Public Health. In this issue many themes are treated: the precariousness of health conditions and of social interventions within adult street population, aiming to subsidize public policies for this population; the need to integrate different social actors and organizations in the management of social policies, privileging inter-sector action; the experiences of implementation of Family Health Program in two Health Units of the municipality of São Paulo; the constitution of a field of knowledge and practices in health promotion comprising an historical contribution of community health, preventive medicine and social epidemiology, among others; the implementations and evaluation of projects of improving quality of life, in the view of municipalities managers, aiming to have alternatives for the local health practice; the theory, methodology and the strategic significance of Healthy Public Policies; and the always important environmental issue, in its multiple aspects. We emphasize then the themes of Health Promotion, Inter-sectoriality, and Healthy Public Policies. Those themes, once again, reveal the complexity of the field of Public Health and the challenges it must face. For this Saúde e Sociedade offers its significant contribution.
