ABSTRACT

In this study was assessed the impact of monitoring and effectiveness of the hypertension control in users of the Family Health Strategy, analyzing its association with risk factors of the biggest health unit in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil. We analyzed 353 hypertensive adults, enrolled between 2004 and 2006. Of these, 109 (31%) had been followed during 2007. The multiple logistic regression model was applied. The ‘outcome’ variable was categorized by reductions in blood pressure, and the independent — sociodemographic, risk factors and blood pressure accompanied — by type ofattendance. The prevalence of frequent users was 37%. The higher the initial blood pressure the greater the chances of reduction. The results show a low coverage, low-level monitoring and a small reduction in blood pressure.
