Abstract
The article analyses some manifestations of the topos of the common good in the Os lusíadas, by Camões, and in the História trágico-marítima, by Bernardo Gomes de Brito, with the aim of proposing a reading devoid of anachronistic categories such as “official”, “marginal”, “euphoric”, “dysphoric”, “positive”, “negative”, “critical”, “uncritical”. Historically, it’s not prudent put these two literate practices as antagonistic genres, supposedly sustaining different ideological positions.
