Self-learning applied to audiovisual technology subjects. Case study

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present, through a case study, the learning needs in a practical subject included in the Audiovisual Communication degree at the Complutense University of Madrid. The aim is to verify the possibilities offered by self-learning as a complement to classroom teaching. The main objective of the study is to analyse the students’ perception of the acquisition of knowledge through self-learning strategies within the experimental technological subject called "Editing and Postproduction". For this purpose, a quantitative, exploratory, descriptive and relational research has been carried out with a sample of 154 participants, according to a questionnaire with three categories of analysis focused on: 1) training and learning, 2) commitment and working methods, and 3) resolution and additional help. The results will allow conclusions to be drawn about the adequacy of the current training process, the learning needs and the usefulness of a self-management training system as a complement to classroom training.
