A partir de uma análise de diversos pensadores sociais progressistas situados no mundo periférico, o artigo relaciona o fenômeno da transculturação - concebido como o "outro lado" da galáxia processual chamada de globalização - com a produção, real e possível, de novas utopias. Utopias produzidas a partir do confronto, contraste e interpenetração entre formas de racionalidade "ocidental" e formas sócio-culturais do mundo periférico, os quais geram novos modos de racionalidade baseados na transculturação. Conclui-se que os novos pensamentos progressistas vindos do Sul, do "Terceiro Mundo", onde mais longe foram os processos de transculturação, são os que têm, potencialmente, mais poder criativo diante do caráter complexo e abrangente da modernização na Era do Globalismo.

Out of the endeavour of some progressive social thinkers situated in the peripheral world, this article relates the transcultural phenomenon - conceived as the "other side" of the processual galaxy called globalization - and the production, actual and possible, of new utopias. Utopias resulted from the confrontation, contrast and interpenetration between forms of "Western" rationality and socio-cultural forms of the peripheral world, which create new modes of rationality based on transculturation. The article concludes that the new progressive elaborations of the South, the "Third World", where the transculturation process is more advanced, have potentially creative powers to better deal with the complex and large aspects of the modernization in the Age of Globalism.

A maioria das interpretações contemporâneas das análises de Karl Marx sobre a política européia da segunda metade do século XIX têm, em comum, a supressão de toda menção à "economia" e sua substituição, ou pela autonomia da política, nas versões heterodoxas, ou pelo caráter performativo da linguagem, nas versões pós-modernas. Neste artigo, sustenta-se que há n'O 18 Brumário de Luís Bonaparte uma interpretação da política que pode ser reduzida, do ponto de vista teórico, a dois princípios explicativos da concepção materialista da história: a primazia do econômico e a oposição entre essência e aparência. O artigo se propõe a verificar a incidência desses postulados naquele texto.

Most contemporary interpretations of Karl Marx's analyses of European politics of the second half of the nineteenth century share both the suppression of all references to the "economy" and its substitution either for the idea of the autonomy of the political (in heterodox views), or for the idea of the performative aspect of language (in post-modern views). This article argues that Marx's Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonapart contains an interpretation of politics that can be reduced, from the theoretical point of view, to two explanatory principles of the materialist conception of history: the primacy of economics, and the opposition between essence and appearance. The article seeks to verify the incidence of these two fundamental propositions within that text.

Os conceitos centrais da teoria da justiça desenvolvida por Alasdair MacIntyre - prática, narrativa e tradição - ocupam o núcleo da análise feita acerca de dois de seus livros: Depois da Virtude e Justiça de Quem? Qual racionalidade?. O artigo considera a relação, em MacIntyre, entre ética e história, virtude e relativismo, bem como apresenta seu conceito do Eu, como corretivos à anomia contemporânea.

The central concepts of MacIntyre's approach to justice - practice, narrative and tradition - constitute the main trust of the analysis of two of his books: After Virtue and Whose justice? Which rationality? The article elaborates on the relationship of ethics to history, of virtues to relativism as well as his conception of the self as correctives to the pervasive anomie in contemporary societies.

O artigo confere uma atenção especial à relação entre sindicalismo e política internacional, um tema escassamente analisado pelos estudiosos do movimento sindical. Na primeira parte, assinalam-se algumas das contrariedades à construção de uma política sindical internacional, tanto a conduzida por organizações sindicais internacionais quanto por organizações sindicais nacionais. Na segunda parte, toma-se a Central Única dos Trabalhadores como objeto de estudo preferencial, identificando-se e caracterizando-se as principais etapas da sua política de relações internacionais.

This article focuses on the relationship between trade unionism and international politics, a subject scarcely studied by scholars of trade unionism. The first part refers to some obstacles felt by union organizations when they have to construct their international relations policy. The second part analyses the international relations policy of the Brazilian CUT, pointing out its stages and key features.
