Personal archives: an overview of recent literature published in Brazilian journals

Abstract

The article revisits the discussion on personal archives, which have long held a peripheral position within archival theory despite their appeal to researchers across various knowledge areas. Over the past decades, discussions on documents accrued by individuals have gained depth and prominence, particularly in archival science. This surge is evident in the notable increase in theses, dissertations, conferences, and seminars dedicated to the subject, along with the publication of dossiers and special editions in relevant journals. Descriptive and quali-quantitative in nature, this review of literature examines the recent bibliographic output on personal archives. It specifically delves into articles published in Brazilian journals over the past four years, seeking to offer an encompassing perspective on the varied dimensions in which theoretical and practical reflections have unfolded in the field of archival science.
