Does mosquito have a heart? The representation of scientific concepts from storytelling

ABSTRACT

This work aimed to analyze how storytelling can contribute to science communication. The study was based on Vygotsky's contributions, in particular on imagination, creativity and concept development. The research analyzed drawings produced by children and adolescents after a remote storytelling session. Grounded on historical and dialectical materialism, especially the relationship between part and whole, the results showed the children's interest in scientific themes, as well as the production of meanings for scientific concepts at different levels of depth. The analyses found in the drawings formulations equivalent to thoughts by complexes, potential and scientific concepts. It was highlighted that storytelling can contribute to science communication, whether at more elementary or at more complex levels of conceptual formulation.
